Today driving home I was admiring my car on how clean it is. I then started thinking about how the people before me really took care of it. But how many people have owned this car? Is there a way to track down ownership of a Japanese car? What did the odometer say when the car came across? I don't know the answer since all documents of importation are lost between owner(s). What I know about the cars history is little to none. At one point, the speedometer was converted from KMH to MPH. So that actual odometer reading couldn't be accurate. When I was purchasing the car, I saw it with what I thought it to be 123,000 KM but when it could be something so much more. Here in the U.S. we use CarFax.com that tells all reported accidents, ownership transfer, odometer readings, and any red flags. Does anyone know of a such site for Japan or know how to obtain any history of a Japanese car prior of importation? This is straight curiosity for me and is by no means urgent. Thanks

Once when I bought my wife a 523i we remarked how well it had been cared for.

I looked at the log book and then the name of the original owner.

Then I called the lady to compliment her.

She was taken aback but was gracious enough.

The irony was that the dealer who sold it to us got stung by A Current Affair for tampering with odometers and shamed accordingly. He was the owner of Cars Autohaus and then Pennant Hills Ford.

2 stories there,sorry ;)
