Was gonna cruise down kingston se way next week in the rs4s and camp on the beach/sand. I've heard and read on numerous occasions that it's a nice beach to drive on because the sand is good and firm. I'll be honest, I haven't been near here before so I dont really know what to expect.

Has anyone else ever given a bit of awd action of this respect to their stagea? Any tips/advice? How was your experience?

Obviously you wouldn't even try to drive near the water's edge and i'm not about to thrash dunes like I'm a Dakar rally champ.. Just away from the carpark zone enough to be nice and private.

I'm also conscious of the fact that it's rwd bias and not full time awd..

Any thoughts?

If you turn the awd lock button on you will get 50/50 front and rear at low speeds but if you don't have huge knobbly tires you will just get 4 wheels spinning! And if it were my car it would soon be sitting on the sills...

no locked diffs, you will get stuck,

its awd not 4wd,

that being said... camping rocks

actually 99% of 4x4s don't have diff locks. and in general you don't need them for sand driving.

your biggest issue would be lack of clearance and smooth road tyres. if you could keep to the hard packed stuff I can't see it being an issue. Just make sure after you give it a damn good clean to get the salt water off

Mm.. the no lock diff does have me a bit worried and I am aware of the difference between awd and 4wd. Its at standard height but the tyres are indeed for road use.. but they're brand new.. just didn't want to be out of view of the car in the carpark (although that doesn't matter so much when you're asleep :P).

Also depends on how the conditions are and how I confident I feel at the time

the no diff locks would be the thing to worry about the least. the no low range would be more my worry.

Just make sure you take it easy and limit wheel spin. Keep it to the firm stuff and you will be ok. Its not different to all the subarus you see on the beach.

what about manuals with the torque split

Are you referring to a manual torque splitter? My stag is a manual, dont have a torque splitter intalled though.

Stags would also be heavier than a scoobie I would suspect..and not fulltime awd like its japanese cousin

sorry maby i mean something else, i think it cant lock left to right or something. you can trip them up anywho.

Diff locks are what stops left to right, but as I said 99% of 4x4s don't either. It's only very serious modified trucks that generally have left to right lock.

Interesting.. I definitely will post the results if I do end up on the sand. meanwhile, id love to hear more about peoples thoughts on the matter. So far I'm split 50/50 whether or not to do so. Ive also seen people do beach driving in commies/falcons and the like.. even corollas at silver sands.. Edited by staglover

Dont see why a stagea wouldnt go very well on firm or even slightly soft sand. As people have said clearance woukd be the issue.. diff locks on sand can help but they can also cause issues. Huge muddies arent needed, the more tread in contact with the sand the better so even dropping the psi like a 4wd'er would help.

Smooth throttle, brake and steering inputs as well as using a bit of momentum if needed and you should do pretty well.

Or create some kind of crazy patrol/stagea hybrid...

that sucks man.... lets do an RS4-S beach camping cruze!!!

Im so in right now :D will need at least 3 weeks notice though for work which makes it kinda just 'hope for the best' haha. Not saying we shouldn't though
