Getting The Motor Out?

Can the motor come out the top on an RS4 Auto? Or do you have to put on a hoist and drop it?

Are there any DIYs for this?

Any one done this that can give some helpful info?

Would really appreciate any help.

Motor arrived last night

I can't believe from the first post asking how to get it out till the second post stating it out only tool 3 hours!!! Every time I've pulled the engine out it's taken a full day, ok I do spend about 4 hours driving to and from the shops for more band aids but still 3 hours is awesome. Which way did you get it out?

It was so easy. LOL My motor mechanic son and his Laurel mate who is MM also helped. Must confes though the top had been stripped to look at the cams. That is when we discovered the exhaust cam had picked up on the head, torn metal off and blocked the oilways. We knew 3 cylinders were stuffed My son found a motor on Monday night, picked it up Tuesday night. Will start swapping all the bits this weekend and have it in by the end of the month..

It is an RS4. The motor came out the top. Took the bonnet off. Only real difficult part was figuring how to get the D/S shaft off/out. There is a lot of stuff just hanging so I hope the boys remember where it all went.
