DarrenJC
Hey guys, This R32 GTR diff has a brand new LSD centre. I have no use for it anymore, so want to sell it. Can anyone help identify it please? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/ Share on other sites
89CAL
Sorry cant help, but is that definently a GTR diff? I didnt think any of the GTR Diffs had the 6x1 half shaft pattern, i thought they were all 3x2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7239605 Share on other sites

I didnt think any of the GTR Diffs had the 6x1 half shaft pattern, i thought they were all 3x2 No. That is definitely GTR. They ARE 6x1. The 3x2 are the crappy S chassis ones. The diff in question doesn't look like any aftermarket centre I am used to looking at. It's not a Nissan one, but most of the aftermarket ones are fully machined on the outside of the centre, not left partially rough cast like that one. One thing you should do (OP) is take another photo looking into one of the holes where the cams and ramps are so we can see if it is a 2-way or not. 89CAL
Strange, I always thought they were a thicker 3x2 shaft on the GTR, but looking now it seems one of the front shafts is like that but the rears are 6x1. There you go lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7239764 Share on other sites

GTRsean
Even ramps on both sides, pretty certain it's a 2 way diff...maybe nismo (similar to stock but more plates and locking pressure) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7241094 Share on other sites

It's not a Nissan one, but most of the aftermarket ones are fully machined on the outside of the centre, not left partially rough cast like that one. I quote myself to correct myself. After a little look around, I suspect that that centre is the OEM diff. The casing looks like other photos of known OEM GTR diffs. The ramps in the second set of photos show that it is definitely 2-way. DarrenJC
That's what I'm thinking.. Definitely 2 way, Nismo. What's this worth? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7241377 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
It's worth what people are willing to pay for it. Anywhere from $700 to $1100. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7241444 Share on other sites
iruvyouskyrine
Are the 'ramps' you are talking about the things that look like this < and > either side of the square? What do 1.5 and 1 ways look like? GTSBoy
Equal angles both sides implies equal effect in both directions and is therefore 2-way. 1-way have a very relaxed angle on one side. 1.5 way is part way in between. DarrenJC
This pic explains the cam shape and how it moves under acceleration / deceleration to force the housing open and engage the clutches. A one way has a flat bottom, so it provides no sideways force under deceleration. A 1.5 has a low angle bottom, so some force is applied to the clutches. A 2 way has an equally shaped cam top and bottom (diamond) to apply force in both directions. Thanks for the input in this thread. benji-nz
(rather then starting a new thread) Time to intrude; I recently purchased a new diff and am unsure if it is a Nismo or not. It will be at least 4 years old if that makes a difference. GTSBoy
Congratulations. You appear to have bought a viscous LSD. Approximate value. $0. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/441085-identify-this-gtr-lsd-centre/#findComment-7253164 Share on other sites
benji-nz
Sweet!... Possible to have Nismo internals? Which I believe would just be a plate change? GTSBoy
Um.....no. Viscous = crap. Nismo didn't upgrade any crap diffs to the best of my knowledge. We got viscous diffs in the back of Skylines and Silvias, when sadly they only belong in the front of Pulsars.
