The housing can be machined off centre, damaged or moved in postage, or just a really poor design common to stuffing 3076 cores into stock housings. Hypergear should have been your first port of call imo. ;)

is it a GCG highflow ?, how loud was your whining noise?

Kando highflow with OP6 rear housing. Whining noise wasn't very loud but noticeable. Wasn't until I come onto a highway at full noise at about 6000rpm that it became a screeching noise :-| blue smoke everywhere after that as well haha.

Pulled the intake off and the shaft play is more like 'shaft free roam'.

My oil feed gasket let go and starved the bearing of oil is my guess for it's failure.

can a turbo be damaged through postage?

If it was fully assembled when posted - No.

Not unless it received such a massive shock that it PHYSICALLY damaged the compressor housing, by means of cracking it. That would be one BIG impact.

I recommend you ask the seller why he removed it and ask for PROOF. I hate to be the nay sayer but I think you will find he took it off knowing it was making a whaling noise.
