Hello all,

Have some issues with my radio reception

Currently have: Pioneer Headunit with 12v feed to aerial amplifier wire (common mistake to miss with aftermarket headunits in skylines)

Fault: Have poor FM reception & no AM reception.

Problem #1: When I unplug the aerial amplifier wire, radio reception doesn't change. Should there be a big difference between plugged & unplugged?

Root Cause: Im thinking my Aerial Amplifier might be broken...Anyone know where it is located? Someone has mentioned it is behind the rear quarter interior panel?

Problem #2: Radio reception gets worse when I switch from Accessories - On (Engine)

Root Cause:Why would reception be worse in On/Engine mode? Would a faulty alternator cause more static/interference to radio?

I have a feeling my alternator may be on its way out...

Thanks

Correct - Amplifier in the rear passenger side C pillar trim and the connection to the arial in rear window.

The front windscreen with the wire in it is a "scatter" type arial I believe.

Pic is blurry but may help somewhat

Speak with Chris Rodgers on SAU (Queenslander)

Legend! thanks for the picture.

Now to work out how to remove the rear quarter interior trim :/

good luck. as you know "fragile"

The passenger side trim below the window, unclip top. And the base of the c pillar trim near the seat is another flex/break point.

Taking back part of seat off is a pain if you go that way too. Then there is the stubborn clips into the metal.

(happen to be replacing mine with newies when I took that pic ($160 each - OUCH!)

sweet thanks, do you have a part number for the c-pillars? Mine have bubbled and cracked, would be good to replace & repair the radio at same time :)

check ground from antenna lead to true ground. also check that the amplifer is on AT the amplifier. I have a spare one if you need it.

nissan local is actually the best place to get the side trims.

    • More than happy with the colour match Talking to the painter he recommended to give the top a few weeks for the paint to 100% cure prior to sealing it with the ceramic stuff Also, because why not..... I have a fancy pants Fluidampr harmonic balancer on order, the 2.5 engine uses the OEM 2.0 balancer off the old motor as the 2.5 balancer is a larger unit and doesn't fit clearance wise, which, because the two engines have different harmonics, isn't optimal, the OEM balancer does the job, but as the gear driven balancer in the bottom end is removed to fit a RWD application there is slightly more vibration, the Fluidampr helps with the harmonics that the gear driven balancer once took care of,  basically makes life easier on the oil pump and bearings when thrashing it around Hopefully the weather gets better soon because I'm keen for some cruising around, and currently, with the winds and storms we are getting, the amount of detritus being blown around from trees on the road isn't something I want to be driving around in
