I'm absolutely sick of being a Tyre Fitter/Wheel Aligner.
I'm on 19 p/h, only working 3 days a week, looking for something to fill the other three/four in the week that pays well (labour, sales, whatever, eager to learn new things, night shift etc.)

I actually wanna advance a career of some kind, but atm I kinda need money to pay for said education.

Spent long enough being a grunt, wanna move up the ladder and do something with customers, maybe merge into sales.
I'm good with people, I just need someone to start me off and teach me what I need to know.

Happy to go into another labor job, just not back into tyre fitting, mindless repetitive tasks with very little divergence has finally started getting to me.
I'm quick, learn fast and I'm a 19 y.o that actually WANTS to work (weird, I know..).

So anyone got anything, know anything?

I like driving (duh, which surprisingly doesn't bore me even 8 hours a day - drove half way around the country calling the drivers seat for the long parts. lol), so I'm trying to get into deliveries in Vans, AusPost, etc.

That, and we all know I want my GTR back, so that's a big part of it. lol

Your in Canberra, where there are a squillion public servants. Said public servants need sparkies and plumbers.

Go get a trade and then charge what you want.

Most of the guys I know making big coin are in a trade servicing the servants.

Your only 19. A trade may seem like a long time to complete but do it.

Do a trade - open own business as sole trader - Earn lots of monies, easy! If I had my time again that's what I'd be doing.

...or open your own tyre franchise and run a tyre fitting business!! Maybe even go mobile with a van?

Identify your passion or a passion

Get a job at the base level and work hard (impress people)

Do courses that apply to the trade/job/vocation and obtain certs

Work your way up and be recognised by peers along the way

Keep your social life under control

Stay focussed on what you want and work to get there

The world does not do handouts

Being only 19 anything is possible. your on the start line now.

I will be doing a trade when I am 21, that is the plan.
f**k living on 300 a week.

LOL.
I hate tyre fitting with a passion, does that count? lol.
I'm bankrupt due to a medical loan that I couldn't pay, so no defence jobs for me.

Wouldn't mind getting into sales in the Tyre Industry, but eeryone asks for bullshit quals which no one has anyway.
Anyone can sell A tyre, I just have a knack of convincing people to buy all four when they don't need to. lol

So your bankrupt and own an R32 GTR (the most stupidly expensive car to maintain), want everything but don't have qualifications, and there are 4 people who have said do a trade but you don't want to until your 21?? Even if you do land a 5 day job, there is no way you will EVER leave and further your education and get a trade.

My tip would be sell the car and get sorted now.

Also this.......

The world does not do handouts

I have been trying to get in with Repco, etc.

No luck thusfar.

And yes, my GTR was sold to fund my cancer bills.
But alas, couldn't make enough, loss of job due to complications and as it was over 50K, I was sent into bankruptcy.
Wasn't a choice.

I know I have to start at the bottom, and I have, the fact I have a job within a week of moving here is awesome.
But no tyre fitting businesses have come through on their promises that my job would advance to a higher level beyond foreman.
And I have proved, above and beyond that I am capable and determined.
Just cheap c*%$ bosses.
The boss I have now is good, good bloke and reasonable, so hopefully it gets better.. but it's still tyre fitting.

I also know there are no handouts, but I was aiming for any idea's and random jobs that are different that someone knows are hiring, etc.

I can't go any further with Tyre Fitting.
The reason I'm waiting until I am 21 to be an apprentice is because it's $550 minimum a week as a 1st year, and by then hopefully I have my dividends on the stocks paying out.

I'd love to get into repco and do just sales, or stock handling for now or move into a parts interpreter traineeship.
Anything that isn't tyre fitting.

And I need a job that is more days/better pay so i can actually afford to do my quals.
I have First aid, Whitecard, Swimming Teacher cert., Tyre Fitting and Wheel aligning certificates.
I am wanting to get my forklift licence, then truck licence, among others.
But I NEED the money to afford said things.

Car isn't of importance atm, my daily GC8 is handling the duties fine, even with a clutch that's on the way out.
Just need to get into something solid that I can enjoy that isn't tyre fitting. lol

Don't get discouraged if you're not seeing career advancement quickly, I work for a large company in sales and I see plenty of young reps who crack the poos when they're not an account manager within 12 months - if the job isn't vacant then it may just be a matter of time and patience. I was repping for 3 years waiting for a chance to move up.

Also be mindful of the risk of waiting for too long on starting a trade - higher minimum wage = higher costs for the business owner so I'd make a bet that all of the owner-operator small business tradesmen would turn you down in favour of a $300/week school leaver.

Um, I never said my GC8 was a Turbo.. lol.
It's an NA GC8 RX Impreza.
It would be CHEAPER for me to drive a turbo WRX because I know for a fact I can use less fuel if I'm not giving it to it.
I also had a Skyline stolen while in Sydney, so that set me back and knocked 8 grand off what I could pay back up front which hurt the bank more than me.

Because the stock values are under 3K, anything over and the SDRO can take the money.
It's only 2 years until I am back out of bankruptcy itself, another 7 before I can get a mortgage (which is good.. because I plan on renting for ages and building my house anyway..)

With my current 3 day a week job, I earn 460.
That's 200 for rent, 100 for food for the whole week, 60 for fuel for the week (which carries over and is used for job hunting and driving to each side of canberra), and 100 that I'm trying to save per week, which I've done well on thusfar.
I had to pay a fine when I came to the ACT, so that put me out a bit.

Very true on the adult apprentice = higher cost side of things.
But I have that sorted. :-)

It's not that I want the career advancement quickly, it's the fact I was given a time frame by my previous boss, then it got to the point he started ignoring me and when I tried to find out what was happening I was replaced by an indian guy they were paying less p/h for.

What I would like is just junior sales, etc, I don't want top dog dollar now (20 bux p/h is going rate for most things junior around here from what I'm seeing, I'm happy on 19 p/h, I just hate my job), something entirely different from my current job, and move up from there - I know it can take years, but at least I might enjoy the job somewhat compared to Tyre Fitting/Wheel aligning.

So in the most simple terms for you all.
I know career advancement takes time.
I will start at the bottom.
I just want MORE MONEY PER WEEK THAN WHAT I CURRENTLY AM ON, WITHOUT having to do more days of this shitty job.
Even if it was 5 days a week and only 700 bux a week, it would still be better as long as it's not tyre fitting/aligning.
Gives me more money to save for the three major things that will set me back about three and a half grand up front, plus a few on going costs.

My biggest aim is to 1: Turn 21, do 4 year Mechanical Apprenticeship while doing delivery work on weekends, the from there get into Rigs and do interstate hauls for a few years and make a nice nest egg - then move back into a long term stable Mechanic job once I am settled.

I'm 19, and I have a solid plan.
I just need enough money to start it and pay the initial costs now (not immediately, but before I turn 21.)

I know, I'm young, yadda yadda.
Hell, if I could move back to WA ad go back into drilling and make 110K a year - cheering, I actually enjoyed that, even with the boiling hot sun up my arse.

I could do mobile tyre fitting again - but yeah, no thanks...
Trying to make money off that is pointless in the ACT because you can get a $50 tow to any tyre shop in the area.
That being said - after hours you could make money, but then you gotta factor in a warehouse, warehouse stock etc.

I don't have 3 million dollars.
