Hi guys

I am putting a set of HPI dumps onto my RB26 (76.3mm outlet from memory) and have a Tomei Ti exhaust (90mm) from the cat back.

I'm trying to find a suitable set of front pipes that will match those sizes, and the only ones I can find are:

Pentroof:

The thing is, I would prefer tuned length if at all possible - are these tuned length?

If not, is there anything else that would be suitable that is tuned length and matches my 76.3mm dumps and 90mm exhaust?

as scotty said it's not a manifold so just plumb it up as it fits. You're best bet is going custom but you might get lucky with an off the shelf part

I had the same setup, ended up getting some custom twin 76mm to 90mm front pipes as I couldn't find any off the shelf that size

Cheers Michael, have decided against the two I posted and will look for a custom job as well

Scott and Tim, sorry I'm lost on what you're talking about - I think you've misread my question - I'm not looking for advice on tuned-length vs non-tuned length pipes; thanks for the input anyway.

I missed the bit where the OP asked for opinions. I assume he wants tuned length because they sound so much nicer than non-tuned front pipes.

Do you have any examples of your front pipes out of interest Scotty? I could only see these pieces of art in this build thread. The turbo elbow particularly caught my attention.

I don't, mainly as I have never been asked to make them. Typically most GTR owners want 'brand name' parts I have found.

I assume Tony's outlet pipe looked a little 'wrong' to you, it was the only way a turbo that large would fit behind the PS pump without hitting the strut tower. A close up of the exterior of the pipe is interesting, but the inside was perfectly smooth, and it flowed the numbers... Again, not something a GTR owner would generally go for, it's not shiny enough, no matter how practical it is.

Most of the jap stuff is junk. Exhausts, catch cans, most fuel rails are junk designs. Aussie engineering could take it to the jap "bling" companies without batting an eyelid. Catalogue shopping is junk.

You bumped a 12 month old thread to tell me I'm an idiot! :/

The point I was trying to make is that you can't just flick through a trust/Nismo/HKS/whatever and pick parts and expect some awesome result.

An example. A SARD fuel rail. Looks pretty, duel entry single out. Sounds sweet yeah? The bloody piece of shit doesn't have a seat for the injectors to push up against. Waste of time.

Kakimoto Full Mega N1 exhaust. Looks mad with it's bit tough cannon. Has some 2 inch restrictor/"silencer"/taper down/whatever you want to call it in the rear muffler. You're so called "90 mm exhaust" now because a 50. Waste of farken time.

Tomei Expreme RB 26 stainless manifolds. Cost a fortune, look pretty. Made from shit stainless that crack and also offer no performance advantage. I've personally done a back to back. A mate has a Evo Tomei manifold sitting on his garage floor because they're cracked. Make a good paperweight though!

Your cars results speak for themselves and i think the only Jap parts you have on it are the cooler and intake manifold?

    • Update for the sake of closure   Ended up getting the intercooler piping all sorted, new plugs and yellow jacket coils, and she was idling mint until it warmed up while I was bleeding the cooling system. Found the misfire to be localised to cyl 3 by unplugging coilpacks, ran a compression test, that checked out, then decided to get a mate to check if that spark plug was firing out of the motor. Upon cranking it over, with the injectors disconnected, the car actually fired and ran on a couple cylinders and heaps of fuel came out the top of cyl 3 I'd say that injector's either spraying incorrectly or spraying far too much, which is fine as I'm planning on replacing them anyway I'm planning on making about 250kW on flex fuel, and have a set of 1000cc injectors from ozautosport, obviously overkill but I'm planning on building the motor and running more boost further down the line, do you reckon they'd be too big for a smooth idle on 98? Thanks for the replies gents, much appreciated
    • I'm confused. You said you want to "remove the clear coat from most panels" but it sounds like you are actually doing a full respray? Few random things to add -  If you chase the blistered paint with 120 grit, I can almost guarantee you'll chase it down to bare metal (that's fine). But if you paint the car from here, you'll have nice little indents where ever the blistered paint was. The new paint won't magically level out the low areas, you need to fill them. Which leads me to the main point I wanted to add, make sure the whole car is flat before you paint it. All those areas with blistered paint you sanded out, make sure to fill them and triple check they are flat with a block guide coat. I'd also check the whole car is flat with a large block and guide coat but yeah up to you if you want to go that far.   
    • 300hp (225kw) is barely outside the standard turbo's range with a bit of extra boost in it (200ish). If you are going to change the turbo you should aim for 250-300kw (330-400hp) to make the expense worthwhile
    • A couple of things, firstly omg that turbo is expensive! $3,000 USD for dinosaur technology is robbery. You could buy a G series turbo and have a good amount of change instead.  If you want a good budget option, have a look here - https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/ If you are keen to spend more, have look at the modern turbos, Garrett G series, Borgwarner EFR, etc. Have a look at the RB25 dyno results thread for inspiration.  If you upgrade your turbo to something that will support the 300hp you want and only "probably" have Haltech ECU, your car will only "probably" run. Actually, no it won't run. You are going to need the ECU and injectors at the time you do the turbo upgrade.  No thoughts on "this much boost" as you didn't say how much boost that actually is. Having said that, plenty of unopened RB25's making even more power then what you are chasing.
