I have continually had trouble getting DTV reception in my coupe with my Alpine TV tuner. The reason is more than likely that the stick on antenna is on the top of the windscreen but placed where the tinting is.

I have purchased 2 x HiTV antennas which I am going to place inside of the bumper bars. I was wondering if anyone has done this before & if it is difficult to do? I am presuming that both of the bumper bars have to come off completely. I also need to run the antenna wires back into the cabin & don't know the easiest way to do this. Can anyone offer me some advice?

I was also wondering if anyone has used the HiTV pure 4 (or3) TV tuner? If so comments would be appreciated

I believe with antennas it's better to have them higher rather than lower, the aim is to have line of sight.

A great example are houses in a valley, see how they have massive antennas and they usually all point in the same direction? It's to get line of sight and they aim at the transmitter because house TV antennas are directional.

I have to agree that higher would be better but without having them visible I don't have a great deal of options. I would still like to know if anyone has mounted then this way and how hard it is to get the bumpers off?

A workshop manual will probably show you have to remove the bumpers and as for running cabling just use existing grommets in the firewall but if you want more examples just do a quick "the google" search and see if other people have installed antennas in their bumpers.

OK, height is not the key to reception, LOS (line of sight) is, height is for better LOS. I really advise against putting them in the bumper. I could be wrong, if these conditions are met if you live in a relatively flat area with minimal trees, minimal high rise buildings and the transmitter is your neighbor you might be lucky.

Give it a go, but I'm just trying to save you the work of fail.

Cars are not the best for TV. My antennas are in my rear quarter panel windows (wagon) I get a couple of digital channels but as soon as a van or car parks near me that's it... no more reception.

I also thought that installing the antennas into the bumpers was a bit strange but according to HiTv this is the way to go. I guess I will just have to install them & see how I go.

Line of sight is better, but you aren't going to get line of sight very often from the windscreen anyway. And if you have metalized tint, it is going to kill the signal anyway. With the TV channel reallocation, they are all moving to a lower channel anyway which will help to reduce the 'line of sight' issue. It won't help for obstructions like hills or large buildings, but trees and smaller objects will be less of an issue.

    • What could be causing my clutch problem besides a bad master or slave then? Both those parts are new
    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
