Hi guys,

I've got an os giken cross mission gearset in my GTR and I've got a C's Short Shifter kit sitting on my shelf...should I install it on my car? I did use it in my previous GTR which had a stock box and it felt very nice.

I did hear that they can put undue strain on synchro's but I'm not sure how true this is?

It's very simple. Synchro does one thing and one thing only. It accelerates or decelerates the gear relative to the shaft during the shift. It has a certain amount of time to do that in - that time being the duration of the shift. Depending on the synchro design* forcing a shift through in a shorter period of time will increase wear on the synchro and shorten its life. Short shifter are expressly designed to do exactly that.

*Two main types here. Conventional shitty synchros that you can beat by trying to engage the gear faster than the synchro can do its job, and the unbeatable type like Porsche and old ALFA ones. The Porsche type pretty much cannot be beaten, they will always get the speeds matched no matter how fast you engage, right up until the point in their life where they are worn to the centreline of the synchro then they simply stop working at all. Shifting them hard and fast causes them to wear faster.
