Hey everyone, I'm after an external wastegate!!

I'm looking into Precision Turbo Wastegate 46mm Black PW46? Anyone have used it on an rb at all? How good are they?

My car is a 32 with an rb20 n boost will be around 15-20psi!!

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Regards

Ali

They look the goods, can't say I have ever seen them before.

I use only Turbosmart currently, especially now they released the HP caps and springs. These precision ones seem to be copied off the turbosmart design anyway, so should be fine.

I'm looking into hypergear turbo! I'm in the middle of discussion with stao!!

Most likely would be this turbo with external wastegate setup: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/261613-hypergear-hiflow-service-continued/page-481

Ok, I have externally gated a few of those housings. Just understand they are internal gate housings only, and you will need to weld a bung into the internal gate hole to block it.

Any decent gate will work fine, around that 45mm size, but don't just weld it on at a 90 degree, you need to help the exhaust flow out the gate any way you can. I use a steampipe bend and diegrind a nice merge from the flange like this. It helps force the exhaust into the gate.

Simply welding it on at a 90 causes the gate to almost flow backwards, like a spray gun. You won't have good boost control.

I was going to buy one of these gates from the US last year but was advised not to. They are only a little bit cheaper than a TiAL but apparently a lot lower quality.

Hope that helps.

go onto the DSM forum, these gates tend to jam up after several hundred heat cycles.. just pay a touch more and get a tried and tested turbosmart one... they're not much more and work as expected.
