Nice car mate, never been a fan of that kit but that's just personal preference and those rims came up a treat.

I had Remsa pads on my old VZ commo with 334 slotted rotors and I loved them. weren't dusty for me and pulled up crazy quick. Although I have heard a lot of people say remsa pads are dusty.

Also slideways I've seen it all over my facebook but never actually been... Is its expensive? and do you do more then just go in circles on a wet track or? figure 8's etc?

Thanks mate, yeah I am considering just getting a GTR front bar now and keeping the rest of the kit on too see how it goes. If I still don't like it I will just get a whole GTR kit.

Slideways days are super fun! usually you will spend a few hours doing circles and figure 8 and other skidding. The rest of the day they have hold other driving events like go to whoa, drag races and small track events. Its a lot of fun and somewhere you can really give your car a proper work out in a safe environment.

Awesome fun with a bunch of mates and you can have bragging rights if you win. great for me as I live on the Sunshine Coast and its close

There is another event coming up in June, its a boost only day so only turbo/supercharged cars. Not sure if its booked out but hit them up on their facebook page.

For me its awesome as I live on the Sunshine coast and its close.

Ok so car is driving amazing right now, comes on boost so much earlier and smoother, no idea why? Maybe the oil change or the new tyres are just playing with me head.

Anyway this came in the mail..

Plazmaman Pro series Intercooler kit.

Now I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this kit..
For people that don't know this kit utilises piping that loops back over the rocker cover and does not go over the radiator fan.
After dummying up the cross over pipe I can see that it is going to hit water lines and vacuum lines going into the intake manifold.

Does anyone have any info or pics of these kits fitted to an R32? Any advice on what I need to do?

plazmaman-intake-pipe.jpeg

I also have to replace the blowoff valve so I bought this Blitz Super sound one from Gumtree, a dude was selling just down the street for me for $20 so I grabbed it.
Its missing the bottom attachment and the vacuum pipe but I am going to get it converted to plumb back so will take it to an engineer tomorrow to see what he can do.
I will just use the factory plum back piping.
Once again any advice is appreciated :)

mad stuff mate, sounds like its really giving you the true experience in building a car haha
as for the intercooler pipe i have no clue how its done ( i hadnt seen that style untll recently) .. i just did a chop and front face on my old r32
drifter
66834_1672033075711_6532091_n.jpg

worked well and didnt cost near as much as the bigger named brand ones.

see i dont mind you kit... though it would look better if you changed your side skirts and rear bar to standard m-spec parts i think it would look a treat!

keep up the good work. will be following!

New mods just adding to new problems it seems with this build..
As soon as I replace one thing I find several other things I want to fix and replace also..

Anyway I finally installed the Driftworks Hicas elimination kit.

driftworks-hicas-kit.jpg

I went for this kit as it completely replaces the Hicas setup and you can get rid of all the weight and crap that comes with it. I painted it black so there is no attention from the authorities...

Was not the easiest thing to install and I had to get a mechanic friend to help.
We removed the whole hicas setup and all the lines but we also removed some sort of pump and had to block of lines off up front. Is this just the Hicas pump?
Power steer is all still working fine and there is nothing new weird things about the car.

hicas-gone.jpg

driftworks-hicas-kit-2.jpg

hicas-blocked-r32.jpg

I am wondering if I have done this right and if the fluid is now not getting access to the cooler at the front?
Should these lines be looped into each other?
When I remove the intercooler and replace it I am going to remove these lines and see where they go to. I obviously still want it to reach the cooler.

Anyone able to give me some info on this? Can I expect problems in the future?

This pic shows the basic layout of the power steering system.

It looks like your factory power steering cooling lines are just sitting there no longer part of the system. On a standard R32 gtst the fluid travels through that line (circuit) to be cooled. It's harmless to leave it there, but if your not using it you could always remove it.

This is what they look like, this is between your radiator/AC and intercooler

Thanks mate! That diagram is a lot better than the others I found.

I think when I go to fit the new intercooler I will remove as much of the lines as I can and just loop the lines back into each other.

Maybe later down the track I will fit a better and simpler power steer cooler.

  • 2 weeks later...

Been so busy with the car and work over the past few weeks have not had a chance to update on here.

Huge weekend for the car with another Gympie skidpan day on Saturday and then a Downshift circuit and coffee meet at Queensland raceway on Sunday!

It was a mad rush to get the car ready for the weekend though. I really wanted to get both the intercooler and the brakes all done before the weekend but its a little hard to do it all myself plus my full time job.
I did manage to get the brakes all sorted on Friday night. Super stoked as I did it all myself but also a little nervous... A problem with the brakes is not something I really want, especially as I would be doing well over 180kph at Qld raceway on Sunday..

So the front has been upgraded to rebuilt R33 GTST Calipers with QFM pads and DBA 4000 Series Clubspec T3 Slotted Brake Rotors
Rear still has standard calipers with QFM pads and DBA 4000 Series Clubspec T3 Slotted Brake Rotors.
Gktech braided lines all round.
Protex Super Dot 4 Brake Fluid

Was pretty surprised at how easy it all was. Hardest part was the braided lines that were just way to long and did not have enough attachments to fit them back in the standard brackets. I bought some Falcon rubber grommets that fitted perfectly and made it all look factory. This and bleeding them was the biggest pain.

Car pulls up a lot better now, there is still a little softness when you first press the pedal in but the further you get down in the pedal it really starts to bite and gives a lot better feedback. You actually have to be careful as they really start to lockup the wheels if you hit them too hard. Also there is no squeaking anymore, the old brakes were so loud at low speeds.

Will try and get some good images of them when the car is in the day light.

Car was ok at the skidpan day but my driving was not...
I dunno, it just seems to have massive understeer problems and when you do get it into oversteer it is very hard to hold, to much power and the car just spins?? I think I was a little lazy the first few runs and just expected the car to be amazing. You really have to give it 110% for it to perform and really hold it high in the revs.
It does need an alignment after removing the Hicas but I doubt that was the problem.

I want to take it to someone who can tune the suspension and take a look at the coilovers and maybe adjust them and get some more advice. Can anyone recommend a good suspension dealer in Brisbane of offer any help?

skidpan-14-june1of1.jpg

Actually was raining on the day which made things interesting.... I have a fair amount of footage from the day, if any of it is it good I will make an edit and upload it.

Downshift Circuit and Coffee update...

Well first thing i can say is... FU%K SOME CARS ARE FAST!!!! I mean there was an Evo wheel spinning all 4 wheels at over 100kph!!

I honestly got chopped by 95% of the cars out there!! I had to pull over and check that everything was ok with the car!!

It felt as "fast" as always but I was just surprised at the cars that were pulling away from me. I raced my friends new VW GTI Turbo golf and he was pulling from me in 3rd gear, this was the biggest surprise, I thought for sure I would have him!

I also raced my friends Supercharged R8 Holden ute.. no surprises for what happened there. There was some seriously quick cars on the day but it was a lot of fun. Just such a huge mix of cars from R35 GTRs, Porches, C63s, V8s, 86s and a bunch of Evos.
Had the gopro on the whole time so will edit that up and upload it too.

Got me seriously thinking about an upgrade... I think the ol RB20 is a bit tired, I mean there are Exhaust manifold studs missing and the turbo is not the healthiest not to mention all the oil leaks.
Very much considering an RB25DET Neo swap now.... Just so I can beat my mates GTI  Will keep my eye out for any that pop up in Brisbane.

skidpan-14-june2of1.jpg

Picture taken from the R8 before the chopping begun... :action-smiley-069:

Grab a master cylinder stopper to help with the brake squishyness if you haven't already got one.

Power wise, if you didn't want to go the full 25 swap, do a comp test on your motor to see if it's healthy and wack a bigger turbo on it.

It will never match a 25 though haha.

looks alot like my current build but my 32 has spent alot more time in the "shed" than your's haha. Also dont know if mine is going to be registered for much longer with the amount of noise it will be making tomorrow. Btw not a fan of the kit looks like aids. Prefer the stock/ gtr look if anything

this is mine with a 25 conversion.. very expensive process.. i just keep finding more things to upgrade on it. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/437884-r32-gts-t-rbr-322/

Thanks mate! Will check out your thread and hopefully get some inspiration and find out what I am in for if I go down the 25 path.

In regards to the kit I am still unsure.. I see so many with the GTR look I am getting a little over it and kind of like that mine is different. Its really the front bar I dont like.

Just bought a GTR front bar so will throw that on after the new cooler goes on and see how it looks.

If anything the kit just annoys me when trying to get the jack or lift underneath it... seriously its a real pain in the arse!!

How the garage looks now, GTR bar sitting on the rims. Please note how small my garage is...

A picture taken while out at the Circuit and Coffee day a few weekends ago. Kit does not look so bad from this angle IMO...

My face shows the sadness after being beaten by the golf...

So trying to sort this f**k!ng intercooler out.

Seriously I thought buying Plazmaman it would be an easy fit and perfectly engineered..... How wrong I was.

All the piping lines up and bolts ok except for these 2....

plazmaman-intercooler-rb20det-2.jpeg

plazmaman-intercooler-rb20det-1.jpeg

That is the distance between the crossover pipe and the pipe coming up from under the drivers side chassis rail. I emailed them and showed them this image and asked what I could do or maybe I had done it wrong and they told me to move it closer to the radiator hose.
It already is maybe 20mm away from the hose, I could make it touch the radiator hose and it still wont be close enough.

Usually when these things happen its because I have not done it right but seriously there is no way this will fit without touching anything or get close enough to fit the hose over the 2. My only option is to have the 2 pipes extended.

So now the car is back to the garage again until I can sort this mess out, thinking I will take it to my welder tomorrow.

Eh, these things happen... if that's the worst fitting aftermarket part on your car then your lucky :-)

Just get the bottom pipe extended (measure the gap, give yourself 20mm of clearance between the pipes) and make sure the extension has a bead rolled in the end of it, like it is now. Should take any fabricator 10min to do tops. You can just run a longer piece of hose over it for now, it will just suck flat under vac.

...getting beat by a golf! man you need some more fast, fast!

Well she is back on the streets....

Funny how a car can change your mood so much...
When there is problems with the 32 I get so bummed out and then my mind gets flooded with how I am going to fix it and what my next step is.
I even ignore the missus and get in trouble for not listening cause I am so consumed with the bloody car!! Very dangerous territory there!

But then on the other hand when it all goes to plan and I actually manage to fix something or install part correctly I am on top of the world.
After finally managing to get all the intercooler sorted and then start the car and drive it with no problems I was so stoked and have been this whole week!

Drove the car to Brisbane today from the Sunshine coast. Feels a bit better but it has been so long since I drove it last I am unsure. Seems to come on boost easier and a lot stronger. The lag is not as noticeable but it is still there and you can get stuck in it. The cross over pipe is a lot cooler than the old one that crossed over the radiator fan, I could not even touch the old one after a drive it was so hot.

Will try and take it for a longer drive tomorrow and keep an eye on the boost gauge to see what its doing but overall power seems the same and still seems to really drop off at high revs.

New K-mak aero GTR front bar fitted too
Still needs a little bit of fitment and paint...

More pictures to come
