As the topic says guys, I drive an auto r34 gt-t and I am about to order the TD06 - 20g turbo for my car.

Though I am having doubts whether the turbo will be running at its full potential since i wont be able to get a power fc to tune my car to adapt to the new changes since i was told by several that power fcs are not available for the auto r34 gt-t. So my options for stand alone ECUS are pretty bleak and I can only turn to piggy backs.

Anybody out there who can give me advice on what computer i can get for my car so i can tune my car to adapt to all my mods?

Also my stock ECU wont let me boost more than 14psi. When i get the turbo i would like to run about 15psi but i dont know how to over-ride this.

So whats available for me guys?

I will appreciate any valuable advice.

Regards

Good luck.

Will be watching with interest. 666DAN uses a Greddy emanage without the ignition harness. I've heard of a couple of others doing the same. I wonder what boost he's running...

I know of another with an uprated turbo and emanage was only running 12 psi though. Got about 230 rwkw's from memory.

BassJunky seems to be going sick on his car since he got it so I wouldn't be surpised to see him posting something soon :)

Apart from that the standard ECU appears to be tunable. Powerplay are working on it as we speak. They have done a couple of R34 GTR's and will be doing a test mule 34 before you can get them to do yours though. That's if you can beat me out of the way first.

Have you done all the rest too?

ps I've heard that r34 injectors flow less than r33 ones so they will need to upgraded if you can find a way to push 15 psi through it. Dunno about fuel pump but don't be surprised.

Hi Abo Bob,

So all these people that you refer to drive an automatic skyline right?

So you also drive an auto r34 gt-t? If thats your car on the avtar its a very nice car.

Can you tell me what your plans are?

It would be nice to have a mentor as I dont know much about cars you see.

I just know what im going to get as i have friends who know some what about modifying cars as they have walke dtheir talk, but I would feel much more reassured to have someone who also drives an auto r34 gt-t having the same plans as i do.

Im really interested in what you said about powerplay working on the stock ecu of the r34.

Have you any idea when they will accomplish the job?

I dont have much mods at all but i iwll list them and what i plan to get very soon:

Present: Full exhaust, Apexi High flow flat panel filter, blitz dd bov (RICE), Blitz LM FMIC, Bleed valve winded up to 13psi. Also have a apexi pod filter on the side but dont know whether im going to put it on or not.

*Note: the thing i have noticed about when using a bleed valve to boost up my psi and having it at 13psi is that when it over boosts me up at about 2nd gear my car cuts out and i lose power (the ecu wont let the car boost more than 14psi), so i am going to set it at about 10psi to be safe so it wont over boost thus cutting my power out because when im doing about 100km and then it over boosts it cuts me down to 70 - 80 km.

And this is the reason why I need some after market ECU to let me over ride this function.

Anyway back to my plans.

Future: Trust TD06 - 20g turbo kit with manifold , external wastegate etc

Bigger injectors (Dont know what im after yet though but i think i will need them)

Bigger fuel pump

Possibly cams

Apexi AVC-R BC

Oil cooler

AFM ECU (HELP NEEDED HERE!!!)

So what have you dont to your car Abo?

Whats your plans?

Please update me on powerplay

And any other news you get about afm ECUs for the r34 gt-t automatic.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Working on something else at the moment but will definitely keep you informed. I'm going overseas next week and need new tyres asap so my mod money will be a little while coming.

I am yet to get a FMIC but following is my plan:

FMIC

Springs/shocks maybe Nismo S-Tune coilovers

fuel pump

malpassi regulator

ecu remap or piggy back that i'm working on now.

1 way diff

injectors probably 550cc nismo

turbo was thinking 2535 but am now reconsidering.

I've done already:

nismo panel filter (I don't think pods are necessary)

CES split dump/front pipe

fujitsubo cat back.

AVC-R

18" rims but they don't count haha.

R33/R34 stock ECUs are tunable but require a daughterboard and emulator (which is what I'm gathering PowerPlay would be doing)

Theres a lot of stuff for sale on GRID.co.jp to do this

Basically the stock boost cut can be changed in the standard ECU as well as making ignition, fuel maps etc tunable.

An example in some software I'm writiing applies to Skylines, 300ZX, Silvias etc

    • In a few years from now, you'll regret that. It'll eat away at you, knowing the truth of the ugly hiding beneath the beautiful exterior... 😛
    • I don't think the G2 profile is particularly dangerous for the engine per se, more just are you actually ok with the turbo lag trade-offs? If the answer is yes then go for it. I personally don't think I'd be ok with it because I spend so much time at lower RPMs and I really enjoy the feeling of being able to stay in 5th gear on the highway and just roll into the throttle to get boost. Or staying in 3rd gear on "gentle canyon cruises" without feeling the turbo lag too badly. The 525 pump should be able to run flat out on factory lines but I would bet the pressure drop from pump to regulator is quite impressive. I don't know how much it would be exactly but I've seen figures like 30 psi thrown around.
    • It's interesting seeing everyone talk about what level of risk they are happy to tolerate.  Building a GTR always has a level of risk, you could be that lucky guy that drops 20k on the engine build alone and still has the thing go pop on the dyno. Life is fun like that.  The way I see it, the thing is a toy to be enjoyed. I'd be happy to turn up the power on stock motor and limit the risk with sensible tuning and engine protection. If it still goes pop, it is what it is. The car isn't a daily driver so it can happily sit while a plan is made to sort it out.  Given this thing will be a street car only, I really feel it's worth the (relatively small if managed well) risk to turn the power up to around 350KW on e85.  I don't think anyone getting into the skyline game now is doing it out of logic. Surely it is a purely emotional decision so I'm not sure how important it is to think about the engine build logically. The heart wants what it wants.  @joshuaho96 little note for Josh, I run my 525 pump flat out all the time and through the factory lines without any issues. (excluding the melting connectors, that's sorted now. we'll pretend it never happened lol)
    • But the Nexus S3 is very expensive and won't be as purpose-built for the application as a separate electronic boost controller :^) More seriously my pet issue here would be that the Walbro 525 running at 100% duty cycle is going to require more FPR than the stock setup can handle. I'm also pretty sure from what I've seen elsewhere you might want to slow down the pump regardless unless you're going to come up with some way of upsizing the fuel lines coming from the fuel tank. Factory 8mm fuel line doesn't actually flow very much if you want to keep pressure drop down between the fuel pump outlet and FPR. If you really want to "keep it simple" I would run only as much pump as you need and source a fuel pump controller to slow down the pump in the vain hope of being able to run stock-style FPRs which are pretty dinky. Or just use the HICAS lines and it should be mostly fine. OP should also really think hard about what profile they'd want out of the turbo. My pet choice here would be the G1 profile rather than anything higher power but YMMV. I already think ~stock turbo lag is pretty bad so I don't want to make it worse. In "gentle canyon cruising" I found that I spent a lot of time around 4-4.5k RPM. I also recommend DIYing labor if you're detail-oriented enough. Costs are high for labor + if you do it yourself you can be your own quality control.
    • GTSBoy is again on the money. My actual advice? Sell the car. (really). For what it's worth as is, you can sidegrade into something much better. If you care about function then this is the actual move. If you want a Skyline to perform, set aside about $100K to do it. This is NOT a typo. You will see right away these are two very different mindsets. Realistically we're talking full restomod for any Skyline still kicking around. Have an honest think about which one you are.. and what you want to do, and how much you want to invest in this (with no return).
