Gtr Gearbox For Rwd Car Help

Can anyone tell me what's required to run a gtr box in a rwd car? Is it as easy as changing the rear extension housing?

No. You have to chop off the awd bit on the side.

I'm sure I've read heaps of info on it that I found by searching.... I was looking at doing the same thing.

Gut the transfer case, cut and weld the side up.
Fab up a crossmember and get a tailshaft made up.

Its not too hard.

Just run an RB25 5 speed. I dont understand why you would go to such lengths when a box is available that doesnt need modifictions

Because GTR boxes are cheaper/more plentiful

Though, one could buy a blown RB25 box and then retro the GTR internals. IIRC they share the same internals much the same as RB20/SR20/CA18 do.

Um, so long as you mean share internals with RB25DET. The boxes you listed are all the "small" box.

Sorry, literary error. I mean that GTR is to RB25 as SR is to CA etc.

Shows how long its been since i sold a GTR box then. The last complete one i sold i got $1500 for it pretty quickly

Ive done it. Put a GTR box into our SR powered Sil80. Its a bit of work but if you have your own tig/mig and some patience its a piece of piss and cheap.

We used a GTS4 box we got for $250....$10 3mm ally plate, $10 RHS for the mount, a couple hours and a couple of beers, so if you can find a cheap box its definitely worth it. Prop shaft was $350 with a slip joint. Still half of a 25 box.

...and you cant straight swap the GTR internals into a 25 box because the output shaft is completely different due to the transfer case, but if you want to press gears on and off then go for it lol
