hey guys, so im planning to buy a fresh import car.which is currently in vic im in sa. the car hasnt been registered yet so what i was planning to do is to fly down and get a permit from vicroads to drive it back to sa and get it registered here. my question is what do i need to have to get a permit from vicroads to drive it back? and when in adelaide, do i just go in for an inspection in regency? also do i need to get brand new tyres before i bring it to regency?

Normally going over the pits and getting registered is part of the compliance process - so the first question is has it been complied? If not don't go near it. I would be VERY wary fullstop of buying an unregistered fresh import, as if you take it regency they will absolutely tear you a new one on every aspect of the car.

If it is freshly complied, then by law it needs to have had brand new tyres fitted.

I wouldn't be touching the car with a 20 foot pole until/unless it is complied/registered prior to purchase. There must be a reason it has not been, and all the reasons are bad.

I assume that this would be the same as my M35.

I bought it from NSW unregistered, so no number plates, but with a NSW unregistered vehicle permit, which gave me 3 days to get to Vic, and insurance based on the AUS vin. Dealer had to get a roadworthy and a 5 day CTP cover slip instead of NSW Rego.

Drove to Vic and Vic roads treated it as a normal unregistered vehicle.

Had to get Vic roadworthy, vin stamped into the car and car sighted by Vic roads. Payed stamp duty and rego, then got plates and drove home.

Just make sure all the paperwork is correct, such as engine and vin numbers having all the correct numbers on paperwork, and make sure that tyres have been changed and match the size on the compliance placard... The old Japanese one is now invalid .
