Tiptronic Not Working.

Hey guys, tiptronics not working in my m35. Somtimes wen i push the lever across it shows '4' on the display but still wony shift up or down. Most of the time stays in 'D'. Any ideas for a fix or wat the problem could be?

I would say either someone had a crack at swapping the wires around for the tiptronic previously, and failed, or one of the switches is faulty.

It may have been me that swapped them... Worked fine for a while then didnt use it for a bit, went to use it a few weeks ago and nothing.

I would make sure the connections are still good. It is the most likely answer

Job for tonight, is there an easier way to pull the selector assembly out then unbolting it from the tranny or have i missed something?

The selector switches are under the gearstick, simply take the handle off and slide the cover up gets you access.

The two up and down switches are there but theres another inside the selector that is only used wen the lever is pushed across. And there more wiring under the selector that id want to check to.

When I push the gear lever to the left to go into Tiptronic mode, it always displays Gear 4 on the dashboard. I don't have an issue in changing the gears but any reason why the gear is always 4 to begin with? Is this a default?

You think I bought one without driving turbo models as well...?

They are a much nicer car to drive IMO. Sure they don't have the torque of the turbo, or the ability to produce lots of power when modified. But, there is instant strong response, the gearbox is completely reprogrammed, the awd system improved too

Ey! I love the box in my m35!! I mean who wouldnt want a transmission that takes a month to kick down and doesnt respond well in super mega awesome 'shouldve bought a manual' mode.....

Is the software different in the new models or the box itself?

Bit of both.

The transmission part (stall converter, clutches etc) of the box is the same physically, afaik, but the trans computer they actually moved inside the transmission. And it's reprogrammed so it doesn't do those lovely series one features.

Easy fixed with a PCS controller, someone program one for me...

Can it be done without much drama/money? Its the one part of the car that constantly annoys me. Even just getting it to respond quicker in tiptronic woukd be good..

No-one has done it yet.

And the control unit costs around $900 I think.
