Removing Badges

Hey guys, I want to remove the GTR badge off my car to do a proper detail. I have decided to just heat the badge with a hair dryer and then use some dental floss or something similar to pull it off.

My question is can a hair dryer actually damage the paint of a car? I tried to do one side and it wouldn't budge. I touched the panel after this and it was too hot to touch, so I thought I would find out some more info before i damage anything.

How close did you hold the hairdryer to the badge, and for how long?

When i did my de-badging (on a r34 GTT) i held the dryer not too close to the paint, and just went over the badge numerous times so i didn't apply direct heat to one location. Got the glue to loosen up and i could just peel it off. Left bit of a mark, but easily removed especially if you're going to detail it.

Not too sure if the same adhesive is used for the GTR badge but it may also be pinned into the panel (though i don't think it is...)

every time i have removed my GTR badge, for a number of reasons, i just use fishing line. quick easy. then polish off the sticky part thats left behind.

Always comes off fine and with a polish comes up clean.

Never used heat etc

I was about 5cm from the badge, so pretty close.

Get hold of some dental floss, put it around the top half of the badge and then just slide from side to side (to get the necessary friction) and bobs you're uncle

No need for a hair dryer or heat gun

get turtle wax bug and tar remover....let it soak it will help dissolve the glue

FYI I managed to remove the badges using the hair dryer method.

I had a door from a R33 GTST which was ready to be thrown out, I decided to do a little test and see how long i could hold the hair dryer on the paint before it burnt. 1 minute and 40 seconds on high heat at a distance of 2cm from the paint and there was nothing wrong with the paint, just a little hot too touch.

Tried another part of the door with a heat gun which goes up to 600 degrees and within 15 seconds on high heat the paint begun to show little bubles and eventually lifted and turned brown.
