Hello everyone. I am considering coming to the skyline scene from the Supra scene. This weekend I may be swapping my Supra for an r34. Now I know my way around a Supra, what to look for etc when purchasing them as I've built my knowledge up, but I don't know too much about r34s. What should I look for when I go to check the car out? It's an auto (yes I know, I may look into a conversion in the near future) n/a 2.5L GT. I'm still on my P's. Thanks guys :)

I'd keep the supra if its a manual. Seriously not worth the hassle of converting the 34 from auto to manual unless you want to keep it long term.

This!

The auto doesn't really bother me, but has always been a huge factor in me deciding whether to buy a car or not, I would most likely leave it auto as it is. However the 34 has 91xxx kms on it and my Supra is almost at the 218xxx kms range. Whenever I do something to it I feel like I'm polishing a turd where as the 34 seems like a more logical move. I am however enjoying your guys inputs and am strongly considering calling off the trade and keeping the soop.

there is no f**king way that 34 has 91 km. ask for import receipts, clearance certs and do a jap odo check. 10 years at 10-15km a year.

the supra is the better option. honestly. km's dont mean shit if you look after a car.

unfortunately, an na skyline is going to have been driven on the limiter every where from experience

I also found the kms a little hard to believe. And I agree. I hate cars with high kms are always thrown to the side. I've had the soup for almost 2 years and have done a tonne of work to it, yet the average person will ignore that as it has high kms. I also KNOW what my car has done, it hasn't been bashed etc. Each mechanic I have taken it to can't believe the kms as it's so clean. I don't want to get rid of my joy to buy someone elses problem. Thanks for the input guys, think I may just stay with my car and maybe see you fellas down the road when I go looking for a GTR ;)

Supras are way better. They can be painted orange and gay decal stuck on the side. They can also drag and "smoke" Ferrari F355s with a muscular "tuner" in the passenger side with a laptop. 34 skylines dont seem to be able to do that kind of stuff.

i agree with the rest, at least till you get off your P's and get a Turbo 34!

But really it's like looking at buying any 15+ year old car, everything could be an issue, K's are pretty irrelevant. So check it out thoroughly and judge the owner as much as the car =)

That may be so, but the Ferrari is more than you can afford, pal.

The question no one's asked yet (unless I've missed it), is which model of Supra? JZA70, MA70...?

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
