Hey guys,

Well im after a bit of advice, I have been informed that my ECU is either after market, or Piggy Backed. And this could be true as my car turns awfully rich.

So i went to Sus it out tonight (huge Hedache), Anyway I got the ECU off and opened. and Stupid me, I pulled the wrong side off again. So after I got the correct side un-done. I had a look and found nothing Sus.

I took a photo of it, (its the best I can possibly get)

Just want to know if anything looks out of the normal.

On the metal Casing, I found the following Serial Number.

MEC-R212   B   03079

<-- no idea what it means.

The only things that stood out in the photograph where..

The two brown stips that had

HRA - 98

Murata

R24

Also those 2 Green squares stood out to me, and on them I found printed..

105K 100

NCC    R

Just like yout thoughts, and information thanks..

Can you post up a picture of the other side of the circuitboard.. Not the solder side (like the pic above) but the component side.

If it's been modded, then the main ECU should have a stamp or sticker on it from the tuning house that tuned the ECU.

J

P.S. - it's fairly normal for a modded skyline to run mega rich.

Jay - Im not to sure what you are asking.

The reverse side of the the above picture just shows little solder marks.

As for the casing, I could not find any stickers on it, apart from one sticker stating what turning this little knob does.

in the picture above, you can see there are 2 circuit boards, in the lower half of the picture you can see the cricuit board on top of another circuit board.

if that makes sense?

I was just about to pull the top citcuir board off, however the ****ing digital camera died!

Also i found a sticker on ont of the casing, it has

BH

      23710 11U00

MEC-R212    B    2615

And also, printed on the side of the ECU where the knob is to do the ECU test is the numbers

MEC-R212    B    03079

Are these numbers ment to match up or something?

Yepp, MEC-R212 is the Nissan firmware that is encoded into the epprom.

Ahh, sorry, my bad, I didn't have a good look at the picture.. OK, the top smaller baord that is held in with the four screws, take the four screws out and carefully move the board up and out of the way, then on the main board (under where the top board sits) is where the main ECU chip for the computer.

If there is only the MEC-R212 number on the main chip then it's a stock computer.

J

ok i took a shot at it

one of the screws ****ed itself so i can get it off..

all i have maaged to see if the board under neath the top one

there is a chip in the bottom right corner, black and has the MCR212B printed on it

i cant see the other side of the top cercuit board.

do i need to see it?

The search Continues..

Ok, So i took a look on the web trying to find out some information on this R212B firmware.

And I came accross this list...

http://www.grid.co.jp/DAT/unitdat.txt

My understanding of this list says, It explains Engines, what ECU its running what Firmware etc.

Ive looked up and down the list and cant find my ECU.

The closest I can find is..

R32 ½¶²×²Ý Œã RB20DET AT FR 23710-11U10 MEC-R213 •s—v 27C256 27C256

Which hopefully translates too..

R32 Gts-t Automatic 23710-11U10 R213Firmware

So by the sound of it. My ECU says...

R32 Gts-t Manual 23710-11U00 R212 Firmware

Would make sense right?

However according to that list, the correct number (if my translation is correct) is..

R32 ½¶²×²Ý RB20DET MT FR 23710-04U00 MEC-R106 •s—v 27C256 27C256

That sounds like the one in my car, except the Firmware is different?

This ones got me puzzeled

Thanks for your help so far.

Have you got an R32 or a R33 ??

I've seen that web site, and I don't think it lists all of Nissan's firmwares. I had a stock ECU that wasn't listed on that site..

Or, maybe, just maybe you have a R32 ECU that's been rechipped to suit a R33. But I dought it.

Honestly, once you start modding skylines they will run mega rich to protect the motor.

J

Ahh cool.

Easy stuff. OK, if it's been chipped the chip will be in a socket. If it's a factory chip then the chip itself will be soldered onto the board.

To re-chip the ECU they need to remove the factory chip and replace it with a non factory chip etc..

If you can't see the socket, flip the ECU over and have a look at the solder joints on the under side (not the component side) of the main chip, if it's been chipped you'll see that the solder for the chip is different to the factory soldered joints, this is where they have removed the factory one and soldered in a different one.

J

Before you took the ecu to bits was it factory sealed?

The r32 wont run that rich until you put in a bigger fuel pump. If it has a pump then theres a fair bet thats why it's running rich.

But as with everything some cars just run rich as **** for one reason or another. My mates sil80 has always run rich. Ever since hes owned it, it's always had a black rear bar. :) He bought it near stock, the only mod was an exhaust.

Well I put it back together .. I honestly couldnt find anything that stood out. So It will proberly forever remain a mystery.

I dont think its got a different fuel pump, i think its stock, and yeah it runs rich .. im always covered in black stuff, pain in the ass because its a white car.

Oh well

It sounds like a stock from your descriptions.... Why don't you just run it down to Gavin Woods and get him to plug his Consult in....that will tell you right away. If you've got big fmic and exhaust + stock ECU it will tend to run rich, but the R32 ECU is tunable to some extent I believe. Good luck

Personally I would rather **** my own grand mother then let him deal with my car again.

I got him to do a consult on my computer the day i baught the car. He charged me for it and told me it couldnt be done because its not an r32 computer.

I then went back to him and told him it was an r32 computer (due to serial numbers matching) .. he then told me that the consult couldnt be done because it may would have been re-chipped.

Although due to todays closer inspections we did find it had not been re chipped.

So as you can see if you were in my shoes you wouldnt be too impressed (i do have other dealings with him that im not impressed with)

Dont get me wrong, some people do find him to be a good mechanic.

I on the other hand.. do not.
