Hey

I've done searches in regards to this, but there are differing opinions and not many proper answers...

I've dumped oil plenty of times. This time though, after letting the oil drain for about an hour, I went ahead and put in fresh oil. But I've accidently overfilled...

It's 4L engine + .4L oil filter on a RB20DET. Engine has done 150k.

I put about 4L in, let it sit, had a look at the dipstick and it showed above H. Went for a small drive, let it sit again, but still sitting about 4mm too high. The dipstick shows the oil level about 4mm above max. and it just touches the letter H.

Should I drain some out?

Cheers

Nah no dents, sump is all good. A fair bit of oil must have remained even after draining...

I think the best thing to do is simply get it at the correct level.

I'll see if I can drain some without undoing the plug completely, otherwise I'll dump the lot and then put it back in at the appropriate level.

Just to recap.

You come on here asking if the oil overfill is ok.

2 people say it is ok.

You somehow decide you should drain it.

Seems odd.

I don't know why you'd say that, I get asked for help all the time and it goes roughly like this:

*phone rings*

Me: "Hello"?

Caller: "Hi I need your help with X, it's doing Y"

Me: "I know what the problem is, you need to do Z"

Caller: "I don't think so, I reckon it's.............."

every. single. time.

I think people are just f*cking useless at asking for help.

To weigh in on the original conversation I fill between the H and the hump on an oil change (in an RB25 you can just dump 5L in if you have drained it on a level surface). I assume the hump is the danger zone much like there's a hump on the low side as well.
