Costs After The Car Has Landed?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at a low budget import at the moment (r32 rb20de) and I was just wondering after all the japan side of things is finished (i.e. Price of car, Shipping, Inspections and Insurance and everything else) and the car is landed in port.

What other costs would I be faced with before the car is registrable in australia?
I understand it needs a compliance plate which has to be done at a REVS worksop?
Are there any other outstanding fee's that apply? Import taxes? or anything like that?

Asking for someone with previous experience personally importing a car how much it costs after the car is landed?

Without being able to list specific costs, I can tell you that you'd be wasting your money and time importing an R32 GTS.

The car has to be roadworthy, it has to be complied at a R A W S workshop

This means new tyres, new catalytic converter. The HD Head lights have to be replaced with standard ones.

The cost of compliance varies , from around $1,500 to $2,500.00 plus rego depends who you go to.

A risky business, when you import a car yourself you gamble 50 / 50 to getting a good clean car.

you deal with agents who really don't have your interests , only thier own.

FYI R32 didn't come with HIDs from factory.

I would recommend ignoring recommendations from users posting for the first time.

Funny thing is, the OP probably didn't want to pay the 6-8k or whatever to purchase an R32 GTS locally and was trying to shave dollars off by importing.

To the OP: As lame as it sounds; you are better off buying a lancer and leaving it dead standard until you get off your provisional license. Put any money saved away and start using it when you have a car you want to keep for a long time.

It will cost him more the 6-7k to import one probably closer to 10 and as chef said they are no longer allowed any way

Thanks for all the feedback, I ended up buying a gts-t here anyway, exemptions are easy to come by I'm qld.

Also, why are they no longer allowed to be imported?
