Gtr Going In To Storage - Tips & Advice Please

Hello fellow SAU'ers,

unfortunately my GTR will have to be put in to hibernation for 6-8 months as I'll be in between garages (building new house....)

So I am putting the car into storage for that period of time.

Any tips and advice for leaving the car to ensure it stays 'healthy' are appreciated.

In particular - can anyone suggest a good car cover ??

There is a mob that do custom car covers, I've been meaning to enquire about one for an r32, they are fitted like the ones that come with ferraris I believe

Also some fuel saver like sta-bil in the tank to stop the fuel going bad. Trickle charger or d/c the battery.

Pull the battery and put it on trickle charge

Lube your rubbers up with armour all

Run it near empty or use a bit of the fuel storage stuff or use some 2 stroke oil

Isn't full fuel better for less condensation?

Then drain when you drive it again.

No it just means lots of fuel goes to shit instead of a little bit which can be diluted with good fuel

You dont need to go too crazy like some do.

If its inside and dry, any car cover will work.

I had my Skyline parked up for 2 years when i left NZ for Perth temporarily. Was only driven by me once every 6-8 months.

All i did was disconnect battery, chocked the wheels with handbrake off, low fuel, and a cheap Repco car cover. (garaged)

Started first turn every time. Instant oil pressure. No trickle charging or anything.

The first stint i went as far as putting the stock rims back on to avoid flatspotting my good tires. But in the end i got lazy and just bumped up the tire pressure. Never had an issue with the RE002's that were on there.

Some people get overly paranoid. each to their own obviously. But you dont need to go absolutely crazy.

Ensure the engine oil and gas tanks are cleared out before you put the car up into storage to avoid any potential freezing or hardening of the liquids. A car cover should also be mandatory even if you are already putting the car up in storage. Sometimes fine particles inside the unit itself can still be up for some exterior damage, though not so major of course.
