I used kyb shocks and king springs. All up cost me just over $750 including postage, which i think is pretty cheap to do shocks/springs with reputable brands.

Sure it could be a little lower, but the ride is nice - stiff but not ridiculously hard like most cheap coils.

You're most likely looking for tie rod ends. And they might be stuffed, or they might be fine. That's why I won't go near a Pedders. Face it. I have an R32, so twice as old as your car, and the front tie rod ends are fine.

agreed, outer toe-arm rose joint would almost certainly mean tie rod ends, about $30 a side for Roadsafe ones. Given you took the car there and Pedders have actually checked it out I'd be inclined to go with, they do need replacing. My inners needed replacing after 120,000k's, did outers as well just coz.

Anyway I'll flog the BC BR angle again anyway, cos mine have been great, and for $1300 delivered you get a whole strut x4, forget about just replacing the shocks, bump stops, boots, and so on. They're also ALOT lighter than a standard coilover, shorter and smaller and easier to work on/around.

They certainly do. Mine just cost near on $2k to get springs, dampers and some of the labour required to fit (I had to leave it with my mech because of the hassles we were having sourcing the right springs). Worth it though. Silky smooth damping.

Every coilovered Skyline I have been in rides like a billy cart compared to how the SK dampers ride.

SK is a really nice guy, and answered a lot of questions i had in regards to suspension setup. If you know exactly what you want you cannot beat a shock and spring combo that work well together for the road and hill runs.

lol at the billy cart comment, most of the adjustable cars i have followed usually end up skipping and you can see how unstable they're on bumpy corners. could this be because most of them were set to full hard with 8kg+ springs?

I havent met anyone with bc hsd tein etc with 4-5kg springs yet. Anyone know how they would ride? and how long the shock would last?

I've found the adjustable damping on the bc's makes a huge difference so yes if set hard they would be just that, hard. Mine are about 8 clicks in, i wouldn't have gone a softer spring rates, even with bumpy-ass qld roads,,,and i was leaning twds the softer rates before i sctually got them

Id go bilstein over bc anyday... Bilstein have been making suspension for a long time and supply alot of manufacturers bc have only heen around a short time and done supply car manufacturers...

And my pet hate... All skylines have coilovers, they come std with them, adjustable or aftermarket suspension is the same setup as std which is a coilover setup...

To point out the obvious, as gtsboy says sbove, a new bilstein/spring combo will cost u Alot more than a set of new bc's, and the OP was talking about doing on a budget. Don't doubt they're a great setup, for the price range bc's a great solution. Ppl saying coilovers is like ppl saying sway bars, or boost cut. Everyone knows what it means, no need to get menstrual about it.

Thanks V28VX37 and Hardsteppa i will probably go with the BC in a 8kg front and 6kg rear.

As for the tie rods ends i will just get a set of those and do em at the same time. Car only has 75k Ks on it but you know peace of mind.

Yep tie rods inner and outer are cheap really. Might as well do as part of a suspension feshen up.before u buy the bc's, don't get me wrong, they're firm and take getting used to coming straight from stock, but by no means 'too hard'

    • I haven't....but a poorly made one would terrify me. Surely a good second hand one is the go, as they don't work hard and no-one wants to keep one after they are finished with it A big consideration would be the weight of the shell you are putting on it....is it a fully dressed chassis or just the body
    • Not stock. All remade. Mostly looks stock because the pipes run to and from the standard holes in the inner guard to get to the return flow FMIC. I'm not sure which question you're trying to ask, because it seems like "stock position" vs "stock position".
    • Hey, it's a GT-R, it's just as significant a moment as mine😁 It's not ideal when things are uncertain; I'm the type of person that always has a set plan for things in life so being unsure of this plan puts me in a weird place mentally.
    • Hows your intake piping? Are you still running stock? Having in the stock AFM position would mean, if the BOV was shut/venting out, it'd create the almost stalling kind of effect right // "the rich pulse behaviour" due to MAF thinking air is flowing ? But this would be better than having the bov in the stock position + MAF on/just before cross over piping right?
    • Essentially, yes. Although I wouldn't put the AFM on the crossover pipe. I'd want to put it into what amounts to the correct size tube, which is more easily done in the intercooler pipework. I bought a mount tube for card style AFM that replaces the stock AFM - although being a cheap AliExpress knockoff, it had no flange and I had to make and weld my own. But it is the same length and diameter as the stock RB AFM, goes on my airbox, etc etc. I don't have a sick enough rig to warrant anything different, and the swap will take 5 minutes (when I finally get around to it and the injectors & the dyno tune).
