better we set this guy's expectations up front first before he decides to spent his $700+ per week trying to make a RB20DET go like a rocket ship, true?

I was once young, naive and silly too.. I spent decent amounts of money on a RB20DET.. thought it was king of the hill.. till I drove a very mild RB25DET and it blew my mind like a girl with succulent lips.

I live in QLD and I'm on my Green P plates.. I'd honestly love to drop an RB25 in it but I'm not sure if I'm willing to take the risk.. Had the idea to shave the engine code off the RB20 and put it on the 25 seeing as the engine basically looks the same and cops wouldn't know what their talking about anyway haha. What do you guys reckon? Is that a big risk in your eyes?

Why not just drive it how it is, block of the bov add a pod filter, to get the fluttering sorta sound, leave the rest stock besides rims maybe a steering wheel etc, being a p plater you don't want to attract the wrong attention, and the rb20 has enough power for a p plater. While ya wait for ya blacks build a mild or wild 2530 or 2630 if ya got that kinda coin. I'm a p plater myself from nsw and I had to get an exemption to drive my 33 gtst.. And it sits in the backyard :(

And never think cops don't know what's going on under the hood, I learnt the hard way, not all of them do but there's the risk you'll get the one who does, if ya wanna get away with it do it right, although I'm legal to drive turbo they still like to pull me over and try and find anything to defect me..

Then it's best you leave your car standard until you're off your P plates.

for f**ks sake leave the stock BOV set up and air filter.

Pods are a defect did you not know that? P Platers in turbo cars get pulled over more often than anyone else on the road why would you risk it when there is ABSOLUTELY NO GAIN.

flutter sound? who the f**k cares it sounds stupid to anyone who actually knows anything

Mate I know this, just saying if he has to change stuff there's some options,

And yes I know pods are a defect but it's not hard to weld up a custom air box to house the pod! Or even buy one.

And altho the blocked of bov sounds stupid, for a p plater new to the scene, to all there's friends it makes an impression, and being a rb20 why care what damage it does

Just like the internal gate screamer pipe, they sound like shit to anyone who has a externally gated one, but to someone who has never owned a skyline/ turbo car before it sounds pretty cool.

    • Hi all   what short shifter do you use on your skykine r34?   my synchronous does have a problem and i was getting huge delay and grinding sound between 2nd and 3rd, did put shockproof red heavy stuff and it is great now/ no issues   would in your view short shifter screw this up?   people seems to suggest/ use cube short shifter and there is standard and premium. Seen review of premium as much better and less play. Thoughts?
    • Yeah, there's a bit of a density and friability difference between pebbles and any of those other things. Silicone will definitely float in oil and so will be mobile enough to move around. Although, again, if it is upstream of the filter it really shouldn't go any further. I would only ever worry about silicone when it is in places downstream of the filter. Upstream of the pickup is a whole 'nother matter. We've all seen what that does. I have seen the most abominable crap settled out in industrial gearboxes, trunnion lube systems and the like, without any sign that any of it has touched anything in the machine. Just chilling in the bottom, waiting for the inevitable operator error that causes the whole machine to need to be dismantled for repairs.
    • I have seen enough fire and brimstone from TSBs about roloc disks causing spun bearings that foreign object contamination is top of mind for me. For sufficiently large particles you might be right but usually it’s a distribution of debris and some of the larger particles can also break down and shed bits. If local shops report RTV contamination in a turbo is enough to wreck them I’m taking zero chances if I can help it.
