Just after some opinions. The Australian Q60 has 235Kw and possibly heavier (not sure on that one?) and as we know the Japan V36 has 245Kw & is 1620kg I think? Please correct me on the weights if not right. V36 based on that would have power to weight ratio of 151 W/kg. Not sure of Q60 because don't know the weight.

I think that is really the main difference between the two cars.

Would you notice the difference in power etc between the two? Or is it too close to call?

At basically double the price, why would you even ask the question? Why would the Q60 be heavier? It is basically the same car.

As for the price, yes they are dearer. They most certainly are advertised at almost double the price. However I have been following closely an Infiniti flagship dealer in Australia and I can absolutely confirm some of the prices they have been selling some of their coupes at is only a quarter at most dearer and of course with that you get everything in English. They started selling the Infiniti in Australia in 2012, first badged as 'G' series then changed to 'Q60' in 2013. One example there is a vehicle for sale right now at Infiniti, compliance date 11/2012, badged as 'G' but is the 'Q60' for all intensive purposes. It's the premium version, 11,000 Km's on odo and is only $46,000 drive away. Tell me that ain't a good deal ;)

Car advice has an article on the very topic. Stating that Infiniti Australia slashed their prices to combat poor sales figures. If I can change my thread topic to include the 'G' series Australia in it I will..

The V36 Coupe is only 1620Kg Kerb weight isn't it?

It's the same car. I doubt the power output is different unless they really tune it differently.

Yep, I've tripled checked it and then some. It's definitely only 235Kw. Why I'm not sure?

Some Power to Weight Ratio figures I have seen are 135.9 W/kg

I asked what I thought would be a pretty simple reply from someone in the know. That was, if you would notice a big difference in the power output, performance etc.?

Sonicii, yeah the Q50 Hybrid is a damn good pick :) 268Kw & 546 Nm Torque, very nice indeed. Haven't seen any good deals on those suckers though.

I'm not too sure. Might just be emissions and stuff so they have to detune. Can't give you an exact answer on that. I personally would get the car tuned after putting hfc and exhaust on so you don't need to worry about why the figures are different. Unless you're keeping it stock...

If I could, Q50 Hybrid would be the way to go :)

Yes, a near new G60 for $46k sounds like a great deal - but when you go to sell it you will basically be competing with all the V36s around. Yes of course the English controls/buttons is a big plus, but the distance a $46k can fall compared to a $25k car is huge.

And yes, I am a grumpy old fart :) ..... and I have seen similar questions posed by a million whipper snappers since I started moderating SAU in 2002, so forgive me :P

So in respect to the Aus engine, I assume it's just a matter of getting it tuned to unleash the beast? Really strange they would screw around with it in the first place. Not sure of their reasoning on that one?

I just thought the Australian sold one would also open it up to a bigger marketplace and I'm sure all dealerships would readily accept it as a trade in compared to the Japanese one.

No worries on the grumpy part ;) I can only imagine the same crazy questions over time, coming up over and over again, would get old real quick.

I'm very new to this whole import stuff and I'm the type of person that has my brain working overtime 24/7 trying to learn everything and look at things from every different angle :)

I can't imagine you would notice a 4% difference in power unless you jumped straight from one into another.

But the discussion really is null and void - almost all people put an intake and exhaust/high flow cats on, which ups your power anyhow. And serious bang for buck value is an Uprev flash or Osiris system, which makes the car tuneable. All ADM cars have horribly conservative tunes in them stock to cater for your average idiot that is not going to run decent fuel and decent oil/frequent services. For example the R35GTR goes from something like 300awkw to 330-340awkw (from memory), with just a decent tune.

That's because he's encouraging you to exercise a little logic. Do you buy a brand new car or do you buy the same one from Japan with low kilometres at a significantly reduced price and slightly better featured, as evidenced by the specs?

It's a no-brainer. I, personally, would never buy a car brand new. The fact I bought my '09 SP coupe back in late 2011 with better specs (namely the bigger rims) at a fraction of the Australian '12 G37 is evidence of the better value I got and the less I stand to lose over time in depreciation.

I understand you're excited and all but if your brain is working overtime, then you need to take a breath and keep a cool head before you make a decision you'll regret. Take it from another grumpy old fart.

It's not a brand new car, hence the reduction in price and some other factors as mentioned. There is no way I would pay $80,000 + for this car. I really would have thought that a locally sold car that has everything already in English and set up for Australia (Sat Nav etc) would have a better chance at keeping some resale value and the general public would readily accept it over a import one. Also a big one is it would be freely accepted as a trade in at any car dealership. Where as I wouldn't think a lot of dealers would take a import as a trade in? Please correct me if I'm wrong. There is no doubting that getting one from Japan is the bargain of the century, but it's just like I said, I want to try and cover all my bases. Now I know this isn't always possible, however I'm trying to find out as much info as I can. And I can't think of another place better than this forum, to get that knowledge from.

I understand where you are coming from. BUT factoring in potential trade-in is more that a bit silly. IMHO anyone that EVER trades in a car is either getting the deal of the centruy on the car they are buying (extremely rare), or rich and don't mind throwing away money. Forget trade-in-ability, as why would you want to flush an extra $5-$10k down the toilet?!
