High everyone I've HD this problem ever since I've owned this car.

The cars running lean

For the car to be able to run normal timing is advanced to 25degres. Otherwise when I'm on wot car will splutter its way to high revs then free up. If I put a boost controller on and have 10 pound boost under wot it backfires with flames.

New plugs

Good coil packs

Rb20,turbo ?

Glows red after a normal drive.

Engine comp

1. 150 2. 140 .3 140 4. 140 5. 145 6. 140

Standard ecu standard injectors

Only mods are front mount and dump pupr back exhaust

And a walbro fuel pump 6 months old.

What could this be ???

How do you figure is running lean?

How do you know they are good coils?

I doubt you get flames when it is lean.

Advancing the spark makes it easier for the coil to ignite the mixture as the cylinder pressure is lower (when the coil sparks) but is being likely to cause detonation.

I'm going to say

bad coils.

Boost leaks

Setting timing using incorrect method.

One or a combination of the 3.

i agree it be with some thing a long those lines

Backfire + flames = unburnt fuel out exhaust = Rich

I'd say you don't have a cat either for flameage

Spluttering on boost - Plugs, coils, AFM, fuel pump.....

Even better idea.... Go to a mchanic and check Air/fuel ratios. Will cost you < $150

What's the dealeo with the RB20 turbo? Any reason why you using on R33?

You know that an RB20 turbo at 10 psi will be shifting less air than an RB25 turbo at the same pressure...(?) Get your afrs checked. Pump should be ok but better if directly wired for full voltage. Have you gapped plugs down to .8mm?

Have you set your base timing properly? you need to pull off the TPS connector and timing it off coil 1 using a spark lead.

Also you will need to adjust your idle control valve screw with the TPS unplugged so it sits at 700rpm before you time it at 15 degrees.

With the stock ECU I suggest you don't run more than 0.7bar, even the slightest hint of spike will make have a mental breakdown.

Once all that is running well, hit up Toshi from this forum and get yourself a remapped factory R33 ecu.. wind in 0.85bar and enjoy 200kW till you're bored.
