For what you buy an Evo or GTt for they are better value for money than more current exotics . The average person isn't even going to consider the above .

Damned right. and if you know what you are doing mechanically then there is no reason to get caught with an old dud (one of the reasons people stay away- due to the age).

Otherwise with the right mods there is no reason they cant be made to perform and handle in a way that matches up to current high end cars (HSV R8+, Evos STi, M3 etc).

My 1993 R33 GTS-T was plenty good enough in performance and handling (and looks for my tastes) after all of the well calculated mods I did. I loved driving it for over 4 years and if I wanted more I knew that all I needed to do was to put on even better rubber or a better turbo + E85 and she would be at the top again.

I built that for about 25-28k (including the car). ANd being an older car you don't mind pushing them and enjoying them when u would baby or not take out a new and more expensive car...

Disco one thing that's a little contradictory there is that the king of the ocean itself, the GTR, is the very car that sparked the hatred in 92.

The GTR is probably the level between hard edged EVO and pudgy old GTT. Though with modifications is on par for speed with the evo in many ways, which would suit many of the ladies looking for the said change.

Anyway, your motives are as clear as mud and this thread puts the imagine of a peacock into my mind. A peacock standing on the roof of a skyline showing its EVO colours.. Just do the poor skyline some justice and sell it to someone who will actually drive it. Once you get the EVO you can go as far as removing the wing if it gets in the way of your shopping, etc.

I say this with love <3

Man you can be a real wet blanket sometimes aye, like a few others on here, and I'm sure I'm not talking to an adolescent. My motive is to maybe try something different (if its worth it and appeals to me) - Evo because same price range and great performance, same same RZ Supra. I don't discriminate when it comes to cars but will always have a sweet spot for skylines, and the R34GT-R is my fave out of all cars, it doesnt offer any bang for buck unfortunately.

And I also say this with love. haha

Agreed. GTR is a god.

While with stock suspension and wheels/tyres ill agree that the GT (S/T) series in the R33-34 are a bit boaty, they really aren't that fat. They are usually in the vicinity of 400kg lighter than a HSV/FPV or even AMG etc etc...

So iv certainly found that with a good set of coilovers and good rubber it really highlights that they are not a heavy car deserving of the boat title...

I think the hypocrites learned to hate the GTRs because they broke too many inflexible prides . I guess if you can't see past the bigger is better slogan you deserve the therapy bills or chronic alcoholism .

The silly thing is that the Sierras cleaned up the "big bangers" and the GTRs rounded them up in their time . Had the 4WD Sierra Sapphire thing been in the race history may have been different .

GTR is harder to compare to an Evo because it is more comfortable and not quite as hard edged , this is not to say less capable just probably not as sharp . I don't think an Evo would stay with a GTR outright speed wise but I think a standard one might just stand up to hard lapping a bit longer because they have the edge cooling wise . Brakes would last longer because they are lighter cars and I think the AWD is possibly easier on tyres than the GTRs front assist system . Also I think the std front diffs may be a bit fragile in GTRs .

In twisty windies I think an Evo would be more nimble with less weight up front to make change direction .

I'll agree theres a bit more involved doing transmission work on an Evo compared to a GTST/GTt but GTRs are hardly easy , I remember being under a 32 on a hoist and it was a three man effort to R and R the gearbox . I never want to do TT changes on a GTR , huge PITA . Easily worth having the HKS TS manifold and gate and one of Garretts T4 TS BB turbos - or a TS IW EFR .

These current cars are no match for well modded skyline, GTR or evo in versatility, performance and function with hardly any investment in comparison. Most families have 2 cars anyway. And then the driving experience is so raw, no comparison with the current crop that's for sure.

I've driven an Evo 9 stock, with coilovers, various mods, up to 265awkw. I can tell you that kw for kw they drive virtually identical in a straight line. The twin scroll 4G63 makes up for the 500cc less capacity and ends up feeling slightly more responsive than an equivalent RB25 due to the shorter gearing.

The cornering is obviously different with the biggest difference being the much faster steering rack making the Evo dart into corners much better, then mid-corner you can obviously lean on it harder due to the active 4WD system.

In saying that I personally think although the Evo is more competent you get just as much enjoyment from a R-chassis since you can adjust the attitude with the loud pedal to provide a bit of tail out fun.

I would agree that an Evo needs at LEAST an FP green and 250awkw before they are truly exciting. Otherwise they are just fast and clinical. I would also suggest at least a rear sway bar.

I was a big fan of a mates Evo 9 with 265awkw, coilovers and rear bar. and I'm a negative and critical little f**ker.

You do both bars in an Evo , front involves a bit more work but worth it . Std optional Bilsteins and stock springs aren't too bad . Flash the ACD computer with Ralliart settings and it gets pretty tight . People I know got almost 250 with a factory 7 turbo fitted with one of GT Pumps larger turbine housings and a better IC hot pipe - on E70 . FIC squirters

and flash tuned std computer .

Mivec 9 engines get better cams plus inlet VCT to go with the bigger diffuser and compressor housing . I'm told that with the right mechanical diff centres back and front they make shit to a blanket look loose .

Really neither 9 or GTR is cheap to own and work on , I agree late Evos are later cars and development went on longer with them than GTRs . 1992 was pretty much game over for GTR in competition on an international scale where 99-2000 was about it for competition spec Evos . I think 9s went up to around 2006 where GTR was finished in about dunno 2002-3 ? Somehow Ralliart and Mitsubishi funded development programmes for Evos after Nissan gave up serious development on GTRs and was more interested in survival than anything else .

Well I've just run a few insurance quotes, for my R34 Just Car would insure it for $13,900 with a premium of $1200 ($1725 excess)

Just did the same figures for a 2003 Evo, agreed value is $24,500 and premium is $2300 with $1725 excess.

This is for under 25 male driver.

That's a nasty little extra cost that i didn't foresee! At least if something happens, you get some money back.. unlike what happened with my R34 that Glasses values at $14k.. yeah right. Some of this valuation is ridiculous.

I went through last year with 355 & 345. Very carefully measured, legal pretty much to the millimetre.

Lol goes to show you how inconsistent Regency is...

I tried to go through at 356mm on the front and they turned it down for being 3mm too low.

    • We just disconnected the vacuum line if I remember correctly, booster is still there. Is there a rebuild solution for the booster or a different adapter that will work for GTR chassis?
    • Yeah 4wd (boosted) has a recess in the firewall for the booster, and 2wd is flat - the example in the link shows the flat surface. When you deleted the booster, did you just attach the factory slave cylinder directly to the recess in the firewall with no adaption?
    • Yes, but no. You need to keep the mating surfaces bare (ie the flat faces where the caliper and upright pads touch the dogbone) and also the internal threads will remain bare (unless there are no internal threads - do they use nuts on all the bolts?). So you can slow down obvious external corrosion, but not all of it. Anodising would be required to provide decent protection to the alloy, but I'm not actually sure if you should anodise something that is all about the strength. Anodising does reduce strength significantly. Like, up to 50% on some alloys for high thickness coating.
    • Thanks   does painting on aluminium work or stop them from corroding?
    • 'Sgot nothing to do with them being Japanese. The climate in the north of Japan has similarities to the UK - the cars are made in the knowledge that they have snow and salt, and they rot there. Cars made in the US rot like buggery in the US. British cars have always rotted regardless of the weather. They will rot indoors in a climate controlled bubble! The brackets are not unsafe yet, but they will get that way. They may well corrode where the bolt threads are in contact and the bolts could just jump out without warning.
