It is with much peer pressure that I create this build thread. More to give everyone an opportunity to hassle me if I'm taking too long on certain items. I was reading a couple of threads just now and got really motivated to lock some things down and make a start on this sexyass car!

So here is is

1984 DR30

I imported this earlier in the year through Iron Chef imports after only a month of looking. It's clear that it's been sitting dormant for a seriously long period of time, but most importantly, the body is pretty straight (and fairly rust free (the fuel tank is a different story)) so I knew i could work with that no matter what happens.

It's fairly standard, except for the rs8's, front and rear strut braces, old school recaro's... that's all I can remember at this point. Between Feb and now i really haven't done anything except clean the injectors, oil change, change all filters etc and as far as doing much else, I really don't have the time or motivation to be doing these things so I've enlisted some help from some friends.

I bought it for track but still want to make it streetable, my last car I feel i went too far the track way and couldn't enjoy it on the street.

What's next? Here is a list of things that are getting done immediately (hopefully that will be finished by end of next week.)

- AFM is broken, have a new one on the way

- All fuel hoses are disintergrated so they are all getting replaced

- Petrol tank is getting cleaned out, resealed and probably relined

- Fuel float needs replacing

- New Walbro fuel pump will go on

I also have the following things on order or ready to go on.

- S13 hubs and knuckles so I can run the s13 coilovers, they have arrived.

- I bought this kit http://www.brysport.com/shop.html because using the s13 coilovers isn't without it's dramas... the back doesn't fit directly but this kid converts the two bolt strut top to three and also allows the car the standard amount of travel as the s13 coilover even at full extension does not allow for the standard DR30 height. Then up front, there is a tie rod end to dial out the bump steer issues. For the price and the issues involved, I'm pretty keen to try it out! It was designed by a forum member clubracer. Just waiting for him to finalise the package as it's a new product.

- MCA Red Series coilovers - I'm taking advantage of the group buy, just need to let them know what springs to use.

Once I have these three things delivered, a forum member will be working with me to set up the car properly as it's going to be a pig to handle and out of things that are not my forte, suspension is the worst of them!

Sorry kids!

I always was cooler than you, troy!

thanks guys! MCA have kindly agreed to reverse the fittings in the camber tops to they fit perfectly without losing the adjustability so I'm pretty stoked with that, the coilovers are base height adjustable too. I just need to send them a standard strut top thingymabob to do this

Now im just waiting for a replacement fuel tank.. my one was corroded so badly beyond repair!!! Couple more days I expect.

so once the suspension arrives, I can get down to work!

    • That’s a beautiful setup Tao, Have u done any development with the new Turbosmart 40mm electronic straight gate, especially in this G30 configuration?
    • Let's hope that's not a copy pump either. There were so many copies of them back in the day.
    • Damn it, I was at work last night, and stayed in a room there during the storm with the car outside, but undercover, I just went downstairs and well....there was a large steel locker that has come from some place last night, it wasn't anywhere I could see yesterday, and yeap, it landed on the fraking car....of course it did..... LOL So, I'll need to take it back for paint and panel, luckily it was only the boot that took the hit, so it could have been worse Serves me right for staying at work and getting on the cans with some of the boys
    • Yeah, really happy with how it all turned out As for aftermarket lip, nah, I'm not really a fan for practically reasons on a street car that gets driven everywhere  I did have the full lower kit on my 2015 STI, but found the front lip scrapped alot, even at stock 4x4ish ride height As the NC sits now, with the lowest point of the car at 110mm, so just legal, some steep driveways and steep speed humps will still "just" scrap those little plastic OEM air dam thingies on the undertray just before the front wheels
    • Here's one I help build and tuned a decade ago, Garrett  GTX3071R Gen 1, T3 twin scroll 0.83 rear housing. Went from larger 272 cams down to smaller Tomei Poncams to help with the low end. S13 non VCT motor. Car was purpose built for the track, hence low down was the focus. Note the actual dyno chart shows lower boost, however the EBC and boost gauge showed 1.9Bar (Ignore the torque, I was young and didn't know how to set derived torque)
