What?

So it just grounds all of the wires together? Why look like a plug?

I don't know the why but I was wrecking a written off stagea and pulled that thing apart to see what it did and it had a small busbar inside to which all the wires were connected.

Every plug on the engine needs an earth. So instead of trying to earth each individual wire they all tie in to a common point. When I was cutting all the non essentials out of my loom it had me confused for a bit, but then I realised that all of the sensor/plug earth points tie into it.

Then there is five or six wires that run from there up next to the VCT plug that get earthed out via the intake manifold. I think there may be one individual wire that gets earthed near the ECU.

It's pretty much just a way to make life easy for Nissan and keep the size of the loom down.

I asked the same question a few years ago! Apparently that dodgy looking blue electrical tape is OEM too

I was wondering about that tape. Gives the loom a "someone's had a fiddle" look about it.
