Gday all. Lately I have been losing my power steering. Sometimes the car will start with the power steering working and then it will conk out (power steering stops working while drviving)..I can still drive like this but Im sure its not good for the car drving without power steering. Other times it wont work as soon as I start the car.

THis has been happening since the HICAS light has been appearing now and then on the dash.

So far I have checked the obvious things. Power steering fluid, HICAS connections underneath car and the HICAS fuse.

My car is an R33 gtst.

Anyone got any ideas?

cheers

Had a problem with my Hicas computer under the rear parcel shelf.

The compliancer got it wet (don't know how).

It had the same symptoms as yours until I dried it out and it started working again.

So I'd say check that computer first.

If the steering pump is turning without fluid spewing out it's unlikely to be the pump I'd say

Good Luck

going to have to resurect this thread guys. The problem I was having with losing the steering disapeared not long after posting the previous post. THe problem has now come back. Basically when the hicas light comes on I lose power steering but it can come on and off at its own will which is quite dangerous when turning corners obviously.

Can someone please help with this. I have tried a hundred and one times to get into diagnostic mode and just cant seem to do it.

cheers

hmm... I'm actually having a similar problem. It started with driving with my dash taken off. Power steering would work for a while, then stop working, then hicas light would come on. Once I put the dash back together, it went away.... Now, some months later, its happening again. Power steering will turn off after about 10 mins of driving, and hicas light will come on in a further 5 mins. Im stumped :P
