Simink
On my way to work this morning I got hit with some school traffic and decided to find an alternate route, and I found a cracker of a road (even if it is only a short one). The road was a bit wet this morning from some light showers overnight, and with some multiple surfaces it creates some unexpected surprises. Please note that this review is taken within legal road limits. I do not encourage 'hooning' or performing illegal acts on public roads. Please respect the road rules at all times and take note of advised speeds (marked in yellow) before making your own judgement. Protheroe Rd - Forgan Rd, Cashmere (Speed Limit: 80kph) When heading from Protheroe Road, the first left hander (40kph) is slightly banked and has an open rough asphalt surface. The apex of the corner doesn't have much grip when wet, so be careful not to hit it too quickly. As the road opens you get a nice high speed winding section up to the top of the hill before a set of blind esses (50kph) dropping down a 16% grade. The esses tighten and open up again, but be careful not to tackle too quickly as there is a solid concrete gutter on the outside that's going to make a mess of your rims if you come over the crest with too much speed. As you arrive at the end of the road keep to the inside line - the road narrows over a blind crest with loose gravel on the side of the road. If you have any good cruise roads please share them. I'll endeavour to keep updating this first post with your favourite roads to make it easy for everyone to find them. Simink
I drive this section of road regularly, it's ok but there are much more fun roads around Haha, yeh definitely. Wouldn't go out of my way to sight this one, just an alternative to boring ol' Youngs Crossing! Thought it might be a good idea to start sharing these by starting with a nice little one to gauge interest. Be good to eventually pull a map together of good drives that we can link up. My brothers and father are really into bikes. They have an awesome layout they go cruising on throughout the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I'll try to map it out sometime. It's at least a 90min loop. sneakey pete
The ultimate cruising road would have to my the Mt Lindsey highway through the bellbird ranges, between Rathdowne and the Kyogle turnoff (following road toKyogle isn't bad either). A lot of people take the Lions road instsead, but honestly i think the main road is better. The road from Kyogle back to the coast isn't a bad drive either, but last i was there the surface was terrible. Its a long way from anything though. Simink
This is the better version of this road, starts at the bottom of Mt Nebo Cheers. Updated using Google Maps Engine. Anyone using Google Maps on their phone should be able to save it as a GPS route. Simink
Here's a loop I'm going to check out this weekend up in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. If you're ever doing a cruise up that way I highly recommend planning a stop at the Mary Cairncross Cafe, especially on early morning winter drives. They do massive awesome breakfasts, and have a big fireplace burning in the middle of the cafe. Toasty! Been up there a few times when it's been wet and the mist looks amazing. Would make for some good photo ops.Sunshine Coast Hinterland loop Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/445962-good-cruise-roads-in-se-qld/#findComment-7348456 Share on other sites
Simink
These link open up nicely in Google Maps app, but how to do save the Map. I'll have to convert the others to a Maps Engine Map, but you should be able to download 'Maps Engine' app for your phone, log in to your Google account and load a saved map, then hit Directions to start navigation. To create maps for the Maps Engine go to https://www.google.com/maps/myplaces, create a map, then save it. Let me know if you can save the Mt Nebo route to your own maps, if not I'll have to set the permissions to allow everyone to edit them. simpletool
Yes, many many goods roads are up out north east of Brisbane. Be careful though as motorbikes, police and trucks can appear so always keep well within the limits and on your side of the road.
