Wingnut0021
Just got my 2004 V35 re-registered and they guys doing the esafety check said I had about 3000kms left on the front rotors. Ultratune quoted around $550 for new rotors and pads. Can anyone recommend someone either in Central Coast or North Sydney/Ryde area? Apparently the pads that I have have asbestos in them too which is leaving a lot of brake dust on the front. Is there a particular brand of pad that people use here that won't leave dust? I don't need to replace the rear rotors but it might be worth replacing all the pads at once. niZmO_Man
Your pads don't have asbestos. That's illegal these days. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/446175-replacement-rotors-and-pads-non-brembo/#findComment-7353173 Share on other sites

Just quoting what Ultratune told me, seemed weird for him to say that they had asbestos in them as I thought that pretty much ended in the 70's :S. sonicii
probably more like the 80s, but still.. hasn't been used in brake pads in a very long time. Just be careful.. if you have a series2, the front pads and all rotors are different to Series 1. niZmO_Man
Although $550 is a good price for new rotors and pads fitted, you need to know what brands are used. As for pads, I think TRW make a good pad that isn't dusty, or maybe this new Intima pads. I used QFM HPX and A1RM, they are dusty but do the job well. GeeDog
Are you in any way mechanically minded? Replacing pads & rotors is quite a simple job, and you can buy them for a lot less than $550. I think I paid $140 for a set of slotted RDA rotors and $200 or so for EBC redstuff pads. Plain rotors & more street oriented pads would be cheaper again. Wingnut0021
Yeah somewhat, I got a neighbour who is a mechanic who wouldn't mind helping out. Also have to fix the rear axle clicking, got the stuff for it so just gotta find a free weekend. BuuBox
Your pads don't have asbestos. That's illegal these days. It was banned here in 2003, but is still allowed in lots of countries even now (e.g. USA, Canda, Taiwan). If the previous owner sourced pads online, who knows? niZmO_Man
I remember seeing an old set of asbestos pads for R31s back in the day (mid 90's). They perform awesomely but obviously kill you with the dust. I didn't know they were banned to late here. OP, get parts yourself and ask/pay your neighbour to help out. It's more fun working on your car and using logic/Google to fix things rather than paying someone. Takes more time though. Brakes are easy as though. Just make sure you bleed your brakes as well.
