sup eeeeeeeevvvvvvveryy body
im a little bored and im after a little more response ! im currently running a gt3037s .84 rear housing and external gate on a stock r34 manifold. its making a tad over 300kw on e85.
i was thinking of changing the rear housing to a twin scroll housing ? don't know if its worth changing it to a .84 or a 1.06 twin scroll housing ?
or should i just buy another turbo :/

If you changed to twin scroll it would do these 3 things:

- Make boost a little earlier

- Not push you as hard in the seat when it does

- Cost a lot of money to do

My recommendation:

Replace the 3037 cartridge kit with a GTX3071 and keep your .84 EWG setup. Known winning formula.

Agreed, to do TS properly costs way too much.

This is pretty much what I did, changing the GTX3076 for the GTX3071, it was night and day for response, with very little loss in my case. If you can get a good price for the 3037 I would say go for it.

Do you want more power? Otherwise drop a GTX28 on there and run ethanol. Response and power. ;)

I've only been in 2 GTX3071 powered cars, though have experienced a myriad of GT3076 and can say the GTXs definitely have the upper hand.

To the point, OP is asking about doing a twin scroll upgrade to get a little more response. Dollar for dollar I am more than confident that the swap to the GTX will get him the little extra zing he's after without the flatter feel.

Whether or not it is really a worthwhile change is as subjective and dependent on personal preference as can be, but I think the comment serves to answer the question.

GTX3071 is more of a sideways step IMO.

Slot a Forced Performance FP3076 into your existing exhaust housing....GeeTeeTee has proven back to back better response and power over his GT3076. Might be what you are looking for minimal changes and for minimal cost.

If you have your heart set on a twin-scroll setup (and prepared to spend the dollars) then I'd be looking to the Borg Warner EFR series of turbo's as these can be had in external or internal gate twin scroll form. Internal gate would save a lot of fabrication work.

FWIW here's an early graph of my 3071 TS .78 (s15) during tuning overlayed onto a tradition single scroll 3071 setup (on a different s15) which shows the more linear nature of a twin scroll setup which may go to some way as to why some may say they don't hit as hard compared to a single scroll setup.

a tad over 300kw on E85? you must be running about 14psi or the tune needs more timing put in, that shouldn't be too boring at all, maybe it just needs another tune with more boost and

using a EBC to awaken the turbo more.

A good EBC makes a world of difference. Going from gate pressure to now running an EBoost Street40 has made a remarkable difference to my car.

Refer post 140 showing a GT3076 with twin scroll .82 ex hsg on an RB....once again note the linear nature of the curve.

What you actually want is not clear other than "a little more response".

Bigger hp number? Stick more boost into it and tune.

Different torque delivery on boost, or spool characteristics? The FP turbo appears to be a good thing, retaining existing manifold/gate/piping. Split pulse might have the upper hand in lower/middle range rpm but you're into new manifolding, gate(s) and piping. Cost consideration.

More off boost torque and earlier transition into boost? There's no substitute for cubic inches.

If it were me, id take the turbo off and send it to Forced Performance for a 73mm comp wheel modification, cheaper and more effective result than Twin scroll and less work too.

Then you can join the HTA thread and brag about how good it is lol...

A few observations;

You want to retain standard manifold, have more response and hit 350kw. Cannot be done. Pick 2 of the 3 only.

Just to reaffirm my position.. Going to the twin scroll will make it the opposite of the 'more aggressive' that you are asking for.

Here are your two options based on the requests you are currently making:

1. Run E85 and max out the 3037 as is to get as close to 350kw as possible.

2. Swap to a GTX3071 core and run E85 to get probably 20kw less than the 3037 but a reasonable amount more response and possibly a little more punch.

Subjective is it with any GT30 based turbo on a std manifold RB25 . Not quite sure what a 0.84 turbine housing is , typo 0.82 ?

My experience with the 52T version is that drive round power is very adequate but tuning even on E85 is critical in the rev/load ranges used every day . If the fueling timing spark is a bit how ya goin then it will feel lazy and it isn't necessarily the turbo causing it .

My take with the 0.82 GT30 hot side is that you can tune it to run better than with std or GT28 based turbos because the engine breathes out better and you can take advantage of that if you or your tuner tries . And this is with little or no boost .

I think it's a fact of life that you aren't going to get 10 pounds of boost at 2000 revs with one of these (first three gears anyway real world) and you wouldn't like it if could . But if you have an RB25 in good condition even a mechanically standard one it can be more than adequate on the street . The more I think about it many of their physical characteristics are the reason why they don't pull like a Patrol at 2000 revs and if you want all that's available small turbos aren't the way to go about it . The issue is can you make enough part throttle torque for your liking and can you accept that it won't pull like a locomotive till somewhere in the mid 3000s . If you want it all you have to have good tuning and absolutely the most accurate fueling injector wise you can get because I think it does affect the part throttle lowish torque .

I wouldn't have a 34 Neo Turbo without EV14s unless it was stock as a rock . To run E85 to 300 you obviously have different injectors and pump and they won't be small . Big injectors often struggle to spray well at low pulse widths and if yours is a dribbling mess like mine possibly is then the basic engine won't give its best at light loads and the pre spool area . Basically to me its how well you can get your engine to run up to the point where the turbo boosts and FI takes off .

    • I'll just reiterate that it's best to do all the wiring diagnostics, before even thinking about buying replacement solenoids ~ that is, be absolutely sure the solenoid is bad.....ie; bad connector(s), rodents chewed through a wire, etc etc. If you don't so this, you can fork out all the money for solenoids, only to find something else is wrong (this'll make you cry if you pull the valvebody only to find a broken wire is at fault... ...some more glue on the solenoid packs -- this is the RE5R01A shift solenoid assembly.... ...these are all shift solenoids ~ ostensibly they're the same as the shift solenoids from the 4-speed auto.... ...this is the RE4R01A solenoid set... ...with these, you have 3 shift solenoids attached to the plate, and the separate solenoid is the EPC solenoid (line pressure control) -- with both designs, the TC lockup clutch solenoid (also PWM so they could slide the clutch shut), is located on the lower valvebody half.... ...(story time)...back in the 90's, it was a common fault that the EPC solenoid (or TC-lock solenoid) would fail, but Nissan only sold them as part of the assembly (think ~$350 at the time) ~ thing was, Isuzu also used these boxes in light commercials, and you could buy the PWM solenoid as a separate part, so it was possible to buy/use that solenoid (around $65), and make it fit (remove the circlip, fit to old plate and deal with wiring)...making it a more cost effective repair. I've not seen the RE5R01A shift solenoid assembly, but with the 4-speed RE4R01A it was possible to hack/fit a single shift solenoid onto an other working set, using a donor solenoid from another set with failed EPC....(by rights the whole set should be replaced), but it ends up being a question of how much life is left in the box itself ; sometimes it's a viable repair to fix one solenoid, just to get another 100k of road miles out of it before it needs first overhaul...other times the box is that old/worn, you're as well doing first overhaul and replacing the solenoids and starting fresh... What Nissan did here with the 5-speed, was relocate the EPC solenoid to the lower valvebody (next to the TC lockup solenoid), and stuck the direct-drive clutch solenoid (for the extra gear) where the EPC solenoid used to be on the 4-speed....I can only imagine they did this for serviceability ; the PWM solenoids are most likely to fail, and it's a doddle to drop the pan and change these out (as opposed to dropping the valvebody itself to get at a top mounted EPC)... ...also keep in mind, that some BMW 3/5 series & Mazda (and maybe some Ford/Mazda rebadges, not sure), also used the RE5R01A box under a different name/part number...not saying parts availability is any better, but sometimes it helps to know this when it comes to NOS floating about in the EU.... HTH  
    • FWIW, air jacks are actually pretty light and simple to add, they are just 4 hydraulic cylinders (often at the main cage A and C pillar points) and an externally accessible airline  - they make quick work a breeze
