Fellow skyline owners..

I think the time has come for me to upgrade to a GTR. To be honest i've never driven one before and I've had my GTT for a while now.

The one that I'm lookin at is stock standard VSpec with an exhaust and intake upgrade.

Sorry for the noob question. But I've read forums where people were not happy with the GTR initially and they spend some money on upgrading the turbos and boost controller etc..

How much difference is there between a midly modified GTT (blitz intercooler, kakimoto exhast, greddy profec b spec boost controller set at 11psi and HKS intake & bov) and a stock Vspec GTR

I dont want any regrets later for spending so much

- That's a good starting point, considering you have never driven one.

- Stick to the stock air intake if you can and the exhaust is a good upgrade.

- GTR owners all have different preferences.

- Depending on what you want to use the car for will determine what mods you want.

- They are 2 totally different cars, RWD vs 4WD / 2.5lt vs 2.6 / Single Turbo vs Twin Turbo / different Weight of cars.

- A stock R34 GTR runs about 10.9 - 11 PSI.

- What's the condition of the R34 GTR V-Spec you looking at?

Stock R34 GTR's can seem sluggish at first, this is true...

i went from R33 GTST -- > V35 --34 GTR V-spec.

Until the turbo upgrade was done and tuned to 300AWKW - to me it seems slower than, what people assume from a GTR.

Ofcause as GTR's go - there is no such thing as enough power...

My doubts were right then, performance per dollar won't be very satisfactory.

People who dont know much about skylines wont notice any diffference if I change to the GTR lol. Cos both the GTT and GTR are white and have black mags.

Put it this way, if you buy the R34 GTR V-Spec already with the aftermarket exhaust:

- Upgrade the turbo's to Garrett -7's

- Get a set of Adjustable Cam Gears (fine tune the timing) or if you mechanic knows what they are doing and can modify your stock cam gears to make them adjustable.

- Upgrade ECU to an APex'i Power FC

- Set boost to about 1 Bar (14.7 PSI)

- Dyno Tune

You will see about 300 rwkW's, a nice number for the street.

You won't have to change the intercooler / air intake / BOV / fueling system as GTR running gear is capable of handling the power.

I went from a GTT (mild mods) to my GTR. Biggest thing was the weight and power delivery seemed a lot more linear compared to the very light shove in the back I got with the GTT. Haven't looked back though - as has been stated, 300kw is easier to achieve and will be stronger.

As its been said a stock gtr is a little sluggish but:

Add in mild mods and it comes alive and mild mods will net you 300kw atw with ease.

The gtr has no traction issues, so it feels quicker with its power delivery (with mild mods)

People certainly know the difference between a gtt and gtr. The gtr demands presence on the road wherever it goes

I would never even think about getting a gtt now after owning a gtr, they are something else.

If you want to talk about bang for buck and being happy, I know pplenty of GTRs (including mine soon) that will destroy an $800000 aventador..... Have never met an unhappy aventador owner. Same as I have never met an unhappy GTR owner wishing they spent less money on a gtt.
