Hi All.

I'm looking at a BNR32 and the VIN/build plate has been removed by the importer. He reinstalled it but lost one of the little rivet-like things and has ordered a new one from Nissan.

He says he removed it because when he degreases the engine bays the degreaser strips the blue paint/coating from the VIN plate.

Does anyone see any truth in this?

I painted my engine bay and removed the plates.

When it came time I used metal rivets instead of the plastic ones - so hope don't get in strife or loose a sale if I ever sell.

I have seen the blue flake a little off the plate so I'll double check mine in the morning.

I wouldn't expect degreaser would remove it but something like carby cleaner and a rub now that I can see causing damage to the plate.

I think some heavy duty degreaser with some kind of hot wash was used on mine that resulted in the blue from the bottom of my factory VIN number being damaged. I've seen this once in a while in engine bay shots when ppl sell cars.
