Hey, I've been meaning to do one of these build threads for the past couple of years but haven't gotten around to it till about now, so here we go...... also, if you are over hearing about my R33, then best skip the first half as that's where my story starts. Also, don't think I'll find much love for a V8 on a Skylines forum but YOLO!!!

Brought the SS-V back in 2012 I think (could be 2011, can't remember), stock as a rock as a daily for when I used to have my R33 GTS-t. Enjoyed both of the cars for about a year and a half before deciding to sell the R33, as I would only have the chance to take it out a few weekends a month and since it was costing me $2k in insurance and $700 in rego, it didn't make financial sense to keep the R33 in the garage for 98% of the year.

For anyone interested, here are a few pics of the ol' R33:

And even though old, one of my fave pics of when the two were together:

Anyway, here's what most people are here for. The SS-V was your basic run-of-the mill 6L L98, with the A6 transmission. Enjoyed it stock for all of 3-months before I decided it didn't sound enough like a V8, so on went a 3" catback exhaust with Varex mufflers and an Airhammer intake.....

Got a few more pics with the old gloss black G8 wheels but don't want to bore everyone with pics overload haha

Cheers.

Nice. Tastefully done. Not sure about the bonnet scoop. Possibly a fraction low, would not want to hit a dip in the road around a fast curve with all that weight. And why wouldn't anybody appreciate any car when it is nicely done ? Your Commondore is fine by me. Impressive power. Any thoughts of running it at the drags ?

Car looks tough as man, the blower with a nice little cam lump would sound tough as. Keen to see what times it goes on the strip aswell :)

Also, stock heads I assume? Also suprised the stock 6l80e is liking that much power :/

Thanks mate, I'm thinking of getting the scoop moulded onto the bonnet so it looks seamless and not "stuck-on". Not sure yet though, as I haven't any other bonnet designs that I like :(

The car is on airbags all round so when I notice a big dip, I just raise it up on the fly :)

Wouldn't mind taking it down to the drags to see what numbers it coughs up but other than that, pure streeter.

Yeah, still the stock heads as the L98 heads flow much better than the LS1 and LS2 heads. Essentially the same heads as the LS3 (square port > cathedral port), so for $2k you're getting a Higgins CNC head bu the gains are minimal for the bucks laid.

Funny you mention that the 6l80e is still holding on, as the tuner has dialled back on the tune somewhat as he doesn't have full trust in the box holding together northwards of 400rwkw. We're confident 450rwkw is there for the taking but whether or not the box holds up is another story, and I'm not keen on going down the path of a T400, so I'm just sitting content on 400rwkw for now :)

nice,

what engine cover is that?

are you not able to run an OTR intake, any advantages to keeping a stock airbox?

wheels look good, what offset, widths are they?

Thanks mate. The engine covers are part of the Harrop Stealth Supercharger setup but I wrapped it in matte black and made a couple of plates that covered the emobossed "supercharged" cast on the side covers. Otherwise, it normally looks like this:

Nah, not able to run an OTR as the angle that throttle body runs off makes it near impossible to make an adaptor to fit an OTR.

Can't remember the offsets off the top of my head as they were custom ordered after I did months of research on the US G8 forums.

Fronts: 20x8.5 (225/30/20)

Rears: 20x10 (245/30/20)

Ah fair enough.
love the senator lip spolier.

also may be of interest to you as a reference.

personally i think it looks better but i have never been a fan of that style, i personally like the slightly more is less approach of the high model stock gear such as the malloo special edition reverse vents or the pontiac bonnet.

Yep, defiently agree that the vector vents on the later model HSVs looks the goods but don't think they can be grafted on easily to my bonnet.

Not a huge fan of the G8 bonnet on anything other than a G8, mainly beacause of the front bar. Dunno, might ahve to playa round on photoshop and see what works haha

yeah photo shop is always a good way to go however with the common holdens someone has done everything on the internet. easy to find reference photos. i havnt found an aftermarket anything which dosnt look fully hecktik bro yet. genuine aero stuff looks best imo but yeah, i recon less is more, same as the spoiler option you took.

Yeah, I know. The only other alternative I'm thinking is somehow mould/integrate a small duct or small vents into the bonnet. Something nice and subtle that hints at the Jap-import influence that's already on the car.

Kinda something like this, minue the vent facing the front:

Scroll about a third of the way down the page, the right hand side where the bonnet is still in white gel coat. Cover up the two forward vents and jsut have the side extraction vent on the bonnet bulge:

uploaded properly now in last post

Ahhh, all good. Hmmm might be something to add on the to-do-list haha

Goddamn stancefags. :P

Where's the tangcla pics...no good?

Hahaha don't hate the player, hate the game.

Ohhh yeahhhhhh, I forgot about them. I'll try upload some alter on when I get a chance.

Very nice, looks like you've done some good work to the car! 400rwkw would be entertaining in this thing I'm sure :)
While I think the car looks pretty cool as is I'm not really a huge fan of the stanced look or the big bonnet,.. I think it looks pretty tough in this pic, the rims seem to suit it really well:
