Hey all, anyone fitted one of these EPAS kits to their GTR? I am going to get rid of my r32 ps pump. I couldnt believe how heavy it was when i pulled the motor out. Looking at how else to optimise the power steering system.

Any feedback on how good they work? How easy to setup for racing purposes? Issues with front wheel drive?

cheers

Have you ever driven a car with factory electric power steer? Ever noticed how it has absolutely no feeling at all and how you'd be better off whacking a bowl full of custard with a horse whip?

What makes you think an aftermarket EPS is going to have any gope of feeling even a fraction as good as those horrible factory affairs?

LOL at the custard!!!!! I Didnt think of it in those terms. I noticed the bc auto car replaced his factory pump with a merc electric pump successfully. That gave me inspiration to do the same. Then when looking for a elec pump I stumbled on this. I dont have an opinion on it having never experienced it. Perhaps a simple electric hydraulic pump exchange is best?

I think it would be best IF you are dead set on upgrading. I thought that's what the link was all about of first then realized it was actually electrically assisting the steering shaft. I think you would definitely lose a bit of feel through the wheel with this

So is the reason behind pulling the power steering pump out to save weight? If so I would suggest considering a pump that eliminates HICAS (unless you are using it, wouldn't think so but) because the P/S pump in my R33 doesn't feel awful heavy

Have you driven a vf?

You would be hard pressed knowing it's an electric rack. Granted the commodore aren't the best handling things out there, but our Calais wagon is great to drive even with its woefully small rear sway bar.

I've driven an old BMW with no power steering or power assisted brakes and once I got used to it was one of the funnest cars I've driven. No power steering has its down sides of course but the steering feel was great.

I'm not a fan at all of electronic steering, it is personal preference to a degree though. I hate electronic throttles though, I haven't driven a car with an electronic throttle that I have liked yet. None of them can quite keep up (or the way the engine management works with it) enough for me to enjoy it
