hi merv tis mark from banzai, don't bother with changing from r34 n1's to gt-ss. the gt-ss use exact same compressor whell as the r34 n1's. i also think the rear wheel is simialar but not too sure if there exactly the same soz. so yer basiclly the r34 n1's will handle as much boost as hks gt-ss but yer all comes down to the rear exhuast wheel. i beleive max most run in japan on the r34 n1's is 1.6bar but yer don't know when it's efficency runs out as havn't seen a compressor map on this compressor. the compressor wheel of the gt-ss is actually abit smaller than a stock s15bb compressor. same size outer diametre but inner diametre is smaller :S the only reason why these are better than the stock s15bb's are because uses a larger inner diametre rear wheel which flows more gas. any ways just some thoughts. give me a ring melv if u want more info will be happy to help

Just another couple of model specific versions of the GT28BB . The SR 20 version looks a bit like a GT28RS with a .64ARR turbine housing and a more OEM style compressor and cover - 60mm 60 trim .60 ARR .

The R34 GTR version looks like a Garrett GTBB effort aimed at quick response , the sort of thing Garrett would have used if they had been fitted std .

If I was doing an SR20 it would wear a GT28RS , I've not had the GTR experience but the majority like GT2530's for twins . If I was starting from nothing with a GTR and wanted twins I would use the GT28RS CHRA with the RB26 specific GT2530 housings . The two are nearly identical CHRA wise though the compressor wheel is a slightly smaller trim (62 vs 63) but the exducer tip height is greater and blade form a slightly later design . What it means is a slight reduction in turbine energy to spin it and slightly greater flow potential .

I'm not a huge fan of HKS turbos because the price they charge for basically re hashed Garrett components .

$64 question that one . My guess would be they wanted a bit more flow potential particularly on the exhaust side at the expense of some lower mid range . You could look at the applications as a 2000cc 4 cyl compared to a 1285cc 3 cyl by two . Thats why the housing AR Ratios and comp/turbines are different .

The GT-SS I saw with the 0.60A/R comp housings were a kit for a GTR.

i cant belive this thread is still going thats so cool.

i gave up on the GT-SS. I went much larger turbos in the end. i couldnt justify spending so much $$ on little turbos.

if you want instant power and no lag go the GT-SS or just by a V8 and wack a supercharger on it :)

GT-SS are fitted! and I am now just awaiting the tomei cams which are hopefully here in oz by now also....

For JD or JB, consider the order permanent. The consumption rate is one bottle per race meeting, that's 17 race meetings per year. The boys need a drink, they aren't camels you know. :alcoholic

Busy week this week, the transporter is due back from Philip Island late tonight. Unpack tomorrow, dif ratio change, gearbox ratio change, engine swap. New ECU so a quick dyno check that the maps upload OK to the new version. Need to finsih revised cold air intake on the other car and then dyno it. Pack transporter Thursday for Oran Park Friday. The #1 mechanic gets back from China Wednesday, so it could be hectic.

Let's talk at Oran Park, I need to drive it as it has similar mods to our new one.

    • Which are almost all nonsense. Ignore. Obviously enough, if it is not a porous block, then any such thing is a waste of time. External block surface? Would be a waste of time, if the block was actually porous. It would need to go on the inside, which is inaccessible, and even if the block was open deck so that that area was acessible, it would be unlikely to work. But seeing as this is all nonsense, stop worrying about it.   If the coolant is coming from the side of the block it is 10:1 odds that it is either a welch plug, or it is coming from the head gasket. Maybe from one of the coolant lines feeding the turbo, or even the heater. Liquids that leak from up high can travel sideways along casting surfaces or pipes, etc on the engine before finding a spot from which to drop.
    • Yeah rust is sadly also a bit of an issue on my car. Doubt there is many cars out there that actually have no rust in those aeas. The strut towers look fine but some of the surounding metal sheets show a bit of brown cancer peeking out from in between. I hope I can make do with external remedies and won't have to rip open the whole front end anytime soon. It looks somewhat minor compared to some shit I have seen online. I have worked on a few cars but I expect the RB26 to be my first 'engine out' job at some point.
    • Welcome Jan, It's very likely that you are in over your head. You'll just have to learn to swim hard and fast! These old rust buckets have more ways to bankrupt us than almost any other car. But hopefully there's nothing wrong that ruins the whole show! We can help a fair bit. There's plenty here who've been fixing these things for >25 years. cheers
    • Hi all. First off, thanks for reading my post. So end of last season I put the car away knowing I was leaking at least two fluids. One of them being rear turbo's oil. I went to my car recently that is waiting in a garage to take a peek with my boroscope to try and see if I can narrow down the souce of oil before taking it out of storage. What I found is not so great I think. The rear turbo is (probably) leaking from the oil drain. The hose and it's clamps are probably the original ones, so most likely just worn out or loose. However I spotted a line of rust going straight down from the turbo oil feed, as if water leaked out of there at some point. Also explains the red liquid that was dripping from my front subframe, which I initially thought was power steering. I can even see coolant drops hanging off the side of the oil pan as well. After a quick hit on the web I found a select few discussions about porous engine blocks. My question is if the pics of the turbo oil feed and the left hand side of the block (imgur link below) looks like it could be exactly that to you. Maybe someone in the community has seen it before and knows what it looks like. If it actually is a porously leaking block, has anyone attempted at fixing it with simple methods like putting a sealer in the cooling system and using something like jb weld on the block surface, or will it just leak in 2 weeks again?     • Hey all. I'm 23 and from Germany, September last year I bought a mildly modded 1995 GTR Vspec. Looks great and was fun so far, but I already have a list of issues of various severity that I need to take care of, potentially growing longer the closer I look. I just hope I'm not in over my head, I really want to keep the car and work towards it becoming great.
