Did a bit of searching on here and google but couldnt find what i was hoping for.

Im going to change my strap setup on my car trailer, seen it on another car trailer at a meet.

Going to use square u bolts one before and after each wheel and run a strap on each side from front to back going under the ubolt over the tyre and back under the second ubolt for each tyre.

Going to weld in some square metal tube under floor of trailer for each ubolt to go through since floor is just mild steel 2or 3mm sheet, double nuts on each thread.

Does this sound ok?

Any suggestions on improvements or things to consider?

I think they are m10 or 12 ubolts just mild steel.

I was using 1 x 1.5t strap per wheel but when towing over to adelaide for sau nats last year the rear toe arm was stripped on one side, possibly over tightened or just from forces from 130kph travelling on shit roads, plus the straps rubbed on my rims and marked one of them.

That is a great idea.

I use that idea on my trailer as if ratchet straps are used incorrectly they can stuff your alignment.

I purchased some spring loaded fold down tie down points from a trailer place and welded them into the checker plate. I run two 3T straps over my front wheels and then back to a secure point for the ratchet to connect too.

The rear just gets two spare 1.5t straps through the rears (not too tight) just incase I hit any large bumps or jumps hehe.

I got the idea from a tow truck set up.

I have been looking into the same idea as I have found that the ratchet tie downs have been coming a bit loose on the rear of the car on smooth roads. It makes me nervous. I have been looking at all sorts of flatbed tow truck set ups for ideas and what you have mentioned is something that will also make it quicker to load/unload and safer.

We wanted to mod our trailer but settled for better straps... The straps have a wheel protector and are designed to pull straight down on the tyre and not against it... They seem to do a good job and are bloody easy to use :)

Sorry for the super late reply.

This is my tie downs they sink flush in the trailer and then you just thread your strap through the rear one and fix the ratchet to somewhere.

My trailer needs some TLC but the system worked well for the few years it was being used regularly.
