Well Said jake32..

Well said!

The cost of buying GTR's (decent) has gone up in Japan, and looking at the stock from the currently available list- I wouldn't touch em'.

You cant beat the piece of mind of taking the car for atest drive yourself before you go blow 4 years of debt! I am with Jake32 on this. If you honestly think you will get lucky and import a car that is everything you want to save $2-3K then do it! Take the Risk. I am fairly confident that if the car is any good, at the end of the day you will be pushing close to $25K anyway!.

Good luck- I am outa here

no offensive but why is mid 20s as cheap as they will get, considering at the moment i could import one myself for maximum of 20-22K, through an importer

There is no final decision in regards to the 15 year rule, and as such people can continue to import 89 cars.

Jake gave a very good description of why. Supply is short, good quality 89 GT-Rs are getting harder and harder to find, and it may be the case that 90+ cars will be forced through SEVS which will cost *at least* an additional $3-4k and maybe more (as you can only bring in good stock examples, so they will become even more sought after).

Plus they are close to a collectors item/classic I think....

so if you imported one yourself for 20-22k .... paid the cash upfront waited the time ..did all the bullsh*t rwc etc...how much would you sell it for ????

about mid 20`s you would reckon :P

The above situation is identical to most other services / situations in the car industry..you pay for convenience.

Take FMIC piping for example.

I work in an industry where we deal with steel sections all day long, and the price of better quality piping than FMIC piping is about $50 worth in the kit. To get someone to cut it and bend it in a workshop ~ $100.

But you're paying for the convience ... are you going to cut it & measure it & bend it yourself for a total of ~ $150 - or pay $500+ for a ready to go kit?

Same as imports..in the end, everyone's trying to get paid, and ignorance / laziness is what sets the bar...

As one of the Pioneering '89 importers (I bought my car back in June last year and imported it January this year!) I can honestly say it was a long, expensive and stressfull process. Yes, it cost more than expected, but being one of the 'First' buyers of '89 GTR's I was able to select a damn good example.

Anyone who thinks that paying mid 20's for a good '89 GTR is too much, I say DO IT YOURSELF THEN! - one you have gone through all the sh*t, then tell me that you would not want a decent price for that car!

I whave been in later model GTR's and they are not in as good a nick as my car!

I did consider buying one locally, but you still don't know how 'good' it is - and to get a good car locally prepair to pay early to mid 30's. Yes there are cheaper out there - I will leave you to take the the risk :( old saying - you get what you pay for....

for all the guys that don`t want to pay mid 20`s for a car they can inspect.drive etc...check out this ripper ...bargin

then have a look at the auction sheet attached for this sh*tbox(the real story) :accident grade ,5 panels replaced including rhr qtr ,core support changed, inner guard repair, roof and both door repaired, has had full repaint and needs more ,mileage unknown..a dog basically @$18600+++

jake32: ouch, that's a faily hideous example there.

I have always said that budgeting $25k is appropriate. Even if the car lands here for a bit less, you still need some slack for things like clutches, brake pads, oil changes, other consumables, and that's assuming that everything is mechanically A-OK.

Thanks for explaining that in the pm, which you never replied to, top bloke.
