I weighed my rims last time they were off and they were 20.5kgs front and 22.5 rears.

Light weights are around the 5kgs + tyres aren't they?

About 10kgs all up maybe? i dunno.

Anyway, is there much performance gains noticed by this upgrade?

Cause apart from the obvious weight advantage, you'd also get the less weight for the rear wheels to spin up which surely would make a difference to your power cure. Not neccesarily the top kws but a fatter curve cause you must be able to get there quicker.

Is this a correct assumtion and if anyone has done it, did it feal much different?

:headspin:

Tony: I think you probably could tell the difference with a stop watch. The less powerful the car the more the difference should be apparent too.

Maxx: 17" TE37s are closer to 7kg I believe. Regardless, its more than just a standard "20kg" because (as Tony mentioned) its unsprung weight so has a far more detrimental effect on power than sprung weight.

Edit: TE37 specs: http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/425

Yeah the extra two inchs (and width) make a difference ;)

As for the others: Gram lights are cast (except for the 57Fs AFAIK) so I would avoid them (too soft). CE28N and SE37k are too fussy a design for the Skyline IMHO: would look good on some Euros though (thinking and Alfa or a Maserati),

  • 1 month later...

I have some Enkei 2 piece rims on my car, 17x9 front and back and each came in on the scales at 12.5kg (including tyre).

They have always been on the car, so not sure if it makes any handling differences, but if you hit a pothole the do dent a hell of alot easier :)
