Hey all,

Went through the threads on here about race seats but still dont have a clear answer. I want to install a driver's fixed back race seat in my R33 (Cobra, OMP, or whatever other brand that will do the job). I am still unsure on how to fit them and Im finding the info re rails etc very confusing. I spoke to Brett from Revolution Race Gear and he said this:

is the car road registered or just a track car? What you can do is run two bars of flat (say 3mm) across the existing rails and then base mount the seat (Monaco Pro) to that. If it is a track car only then you can have a sub frame welded in and then mount side mounts to that then side mount the seat.

Now my car is still registered but is being set up for track. I would like to keep it registered.

1. Can anyone explain to me what Brett meant?

2. Can anyone provide advice/tutorial etc on how to mount the fixed back seat into my R33?

Cheers in advance all

Amir

Basically, he is saying to modify your standard rails to suit the seat you are buying. This certainly would be the cheapest way of doing it...

Circa 2008-2009 I purchased off the shelf rails to suit my Sparco Sprint V from Revolution Racegear Brookvale NSW as I wanted to be able to quickly and easily swap the standard seat and the fixed back. It had to be ordered in, but once I had it installing the seat takes less than 10 mins :)

Cheers Matt,

So how do I modify the existing rails exactly? And what did you mean by "Circa 2008-2009" (googled it see if I find anything but I didnt).

How much did the Sparco Sprint V cost you if you dont mind me asking and how long ago did you purchase it? Any chance of posting up some photos of your setup?

Appreciate the help

Cheers

I don't know how, another reason I bought my rails off the shelf ;)

I bought the Spacro Sprint V second hand for around $300. Be sure to sit in one first as they are a narrow seat that won't suit the bigger driver! Circa is a term meaning approximately/around, meaning I bought it around 2008 - 2009.

I'll see if I can take some photos in the next few days

Oh I see mate cheers. Where did you buy the off the shelf rails? I think this will be the way to go as I dont want to much around with the existing rails too much.

Does one brand of rails usually suit other brands and seats or are they very specific in that sense?

Cheers for the help mate, if you could guide me who sells off the shelf rails that would be great.

I bought mine from Revolution Racegear Brookvale (had to be ordered in), but I'm sure you can get them elsewhere.

What rails you need will depend on what seat you get. Some seats are base mount, some are side mount, some have options for both! I think your best bet would be to figure out what seat you will eventually use and try to find mounts for that particular seat

Alternatively, get some GT-R seats. They hold you in better than GTS-t seats and will bolt straight in!

EDIT

Here is an old photo I found on Facebook, you can almost see the rails... lol

Alright thanks for the advice Matt I appreciate it. Will do some more searching and hopefuly find a suitable seat and rails.

Have you (or anyone else) used the seats NZKW sell? Thinking of getting something off those guys and Vincent from NZKW said he can supply rails that will bolt straight into the R33.
