Have I got this right, it cost $147.50 + $147.50 + $80 = $375 to have 2 rear R32 GTST shocks rebuilt? Plus I would have no car for 2 days up + 7 days + 2 days back. That would be 2 weeks, doing the work on weekends. For ~$20 more and no waiting, personally I'd buy a brand new pair of Bilsteins or Konis. But that's just my preference I guess. :rofl:

thats correct, they were not standard GTSt shocks, but a set of Quantum coilovers.

I priced a set of Bilsteins, by the time I got all the bits for them (the coilover platform height adjsutment collars etc) it was going to cost me over $700 just for the rear shocks, so for half the price I have pretty much new rear shocks.

Don't you think that its a good price or service? I thought it was great, considering the cost of replacement suspension, and they can re-valve to suit for no extra charge

For someone such as myself who has no access in my state to have suspension such as I have rebuilt, I think its a great service :D

I think that this is a good idea when it comes to high priced a/m coilovers. But for normal shocks, you're probably better off getting a new pair. i got quoted $240 per koni adjustable, but i'm sure you could find cheaper with a bit of shopping round.

I think Chris is right. I enquired about buying some new Bilsteins for my car, and (dont quote me on this:)) the guy i spoke to said they dont make em for a gtst?? they had to have my old ones (std shockers) and modify a gtr pair to suit my car.....ended up around the $700 mark for a pair of new bilsteins just for the rear....

I ended up buying a complete set front and rear for $600 with springs :P....used of course

If the threaded sleeves were the same size, you could use the Quantum lower spring seats and lock rings on the Bilsteins/Konis . That would mean you only need to buy the threaded sleeves, ~$25 X 2 if I remember rightly. If you were unlucky and the sleeve diameters where different, then the lower spring seats and lock rings are ~$35 X 2.

So that's 395 + 50 + 70 = $515. For $700 you should just about get a new pair of springs and top seats.

Easy for me to say, we have a hundred or so coil springs and about 20 pairs of shocks around the race team all the time. It is not unusual for us to change springs/shocks 5 or 6 times in one day at a race meeting. :(

I guess the prices I got where quite high, as I was quoted $250 per shock and $100 for each spring platform and a further $150 for the tops - around $750 - 800 all up was the price.

I guess it all comes down to what each person has available to them at the time. Considering the price of jap coilovers, the cost to rebuild them is quite cheap in my opinion.

I am not saying that the Bilstiens and Koni's are better or worse than the Jap stuff, just letting everyone know that you can have your busted suspension repaired for a fraction of the cost of buying the equivalent japanese product.

If I ever had to buy brand new sus, then Iwould most probably get a set of Bilstiens and springs to suit, but I bought a set of used coilovers, one busted, and I got it fixed

So anyone who has a set of coilovers, you can get them repaired if one of them dies

thats all I am trying to say

wether you guys see value in that, its up to you, becasue at the end of the day, you are the one opening up your wallet to pay for it

dude i sent my shocks away about 3 weeks ago and got them back today.he said that they are in the process of changing management that is why it took so long.I live in sydney as well.What i did was send a message in an envellope allong with the the package.All was well and i cant speak highly enouge for their quality.

Glad to see everyones dealing have been good. My Apexi coilovers still feel great and that is 8 months ago now and nearly 10000ks. Although I think the service has dropped a little since they changed hands but still not bad.

    • So it should work in my case?  I does not say R34 but it say push(i have push gearbox/clutch right now) No i wont...and i do not drift/race or do anything crazy with car so even a small box should be ok for a couple of months
    • Ha ha, yeah, I've had one following me around in my parts boxes since about 2007 I believe. Just a little iddy bit hole drilled in the one I have to let it vent out once pressure was removed from the engine side. Still no idea what I'd put it on, ha ha.

Do you think the driver was testing out a new feature/device for how to lose the cops in a high speed chase?   I also suspect, if the box has a road sweeper that does magnetic metal pick up, he does a LOT of work in the machining industry. Which is what most of that looked like, machining chips from a mill or lathe. And I bet they're RAZOR sharp! And from an environmental perspective they really do need to actually collect all of those little pieces too. I wonder how many people still cop flat tires over the coming months on that road?   As for insurance company, yeah, it'd be interesting to hear what they say to the owner. But realistically, he's right, that "It's his fault". In the way that, it was his truck that spilled it, so they need to clean it up. However, neither he, nor his insurance company may bear the end cost if they do an investigation and find out it was caused by someone elses negligence (And they know who)...
    • Yeah, no matter what bad things people can say about Julian from Autospeed, he at least was capable of thinking and his inclusion of a check/relief valve in the plumbing for the Audi boost controller, that I made a copy of and used for years**, completely eradicated that problem. **It's still lying on my workbench where I put it about, um, 18 years ago and have never found a home for it!
    • I didn't actually know this! I've seen photos of the H1, mainly outside shots, and they just look "different". I guess there'd be a few little changes like nicer rims, and probably the fact they have nicer looking paint with some depth and shine, which will make any vehicles body look different to the very flat colours of the defence force.   I've watched the guys on GHPC convert their Humvee to LS1, and they've done some really nice front shock upgrade. I'm waiting for the next video on it with the rear end done. I can't remember if they've already done it, or I dreamed it, but I believe they're also supercharging theres. They will be in the future doing proper long travel suspension too.   If you ditch out your big V8, as rubbish as it must be, send it to my place. I'll let the unreliable V8 motor and box be here. I just like V8s... So I'll find something to do with it... Even if that something is just taking up valuable space in the yard. I might have something Skyline I can send back in payment... Or even Ford Barra motors  (From memory you're in Canada yeah?) So you can then play with the legendary Aussie 4L version of an RB...  Except they don't have that distinctive random miss at idle like the RB25 does.
