Hey Adam! I was taken to court for the pod filter as well... i didn't notice it at first, but sean did... they charged me with exhaust and pod :) they went all out!!! And you're right... it wasn't a repeat offence... well... they just charged me with having the illegal stuff... the epa guy, when i spoke to him that night, though, said that because it was a repeat offence, i will either get a fine, or i would be requested to appear in court... so if it was up to the epa officer... then he must have really hated me! : ahh well!! i'm all legal now! and aim to remain that way!

How rude, that the harleys get away with nothing!! those bikes are louder than a car will ever be!!

and i think its quiet stupid that you are allowed to import and comply a car with 'illegal' parts... thats just ghey! you shouldn't be allowed to register the car if it doesn't comply with australian standards!

plus, its also ghey, that a stock skyline doesn't pass emmissions standards STOCK! dont know how they expect those cars to pass, when they won't out of the factory...

I think more to the point is the wording of the emissions legislation. I haven't looked deeply into it but from what I've heard it's all about capacity without proper allowances for turbos. Apparently Saab have been making complaints for years about this.

Are they trying to tell us that a Skyline pumps out much more crap than a big v8???

Abo,

All good points mate. From what I remember pod filters can also be defected as they are an underbonnet fire hazard. So say your exhaust was under the 90db, but you got defected for the pod as a fire hazard, I beleive in these cases you could enclose the pod in a (custom) box (as opposed to re-fitting the factory equipment) and have it passed.

Richard

The question here is what is "standard", if the vehicle was complied with the POD then that is "standard" and the factory equipment is "non standard". :)

What really gets up my nose is that I have heard people having been issued fines because the officer couldn't understand the engineer's certificate. I have also heard of (read: been told by RTA officer), that people have gone to the RTA to get a defect cleared, and then getting defected down the road. The reason was "You could've modified the car since you had it engineered". :bs!:

DAMN.....thats pretty f#%ked up.......

well at least you got off with a "relatively" light penalty......

anyways mona...stay legal.....

id hate to think what would happen if you got done a third time....(touch wood)

yeap! i'm not touching the car! I already knew i'd be in trouble a second time round... i'm definitely not ricking it by going a third time!

I was done by epa in my 33 i live campbelltown way and they had a blitz down here bout 3 months ago at the local police station we where just driving me and few friends, they pulled us over and told us we where pulled over for a "RANDOM VECHIEL INSPECTION ?? herd of that)" and to follow them to the local high way patrol station, ona rrival cops first went over our cars and any thing they could find they did you for, then they told us ot drive through the gates and get exhust check by the epa, i was done i got a hks exhust super dragger but i was done for no cat though i didnt remove it brought into the country like this. Even with the size of the hks super dragger rear canon i am sure u all know of and no cat i still noly hit a 93db reading which wasnt that high when my mate with a rexy hit a 112db just cat back.. i took the fines as it was an offence. they then start taking photos of my engine bay every aspected and angle of the car even made me have photos with my car..I was unsure why when asked i was told by the police ot be quiet and obey.. all up it was expensive night when we wanted to have a quiet one at mates house, me n some of my mate with rexy n few other 200's n silvias all copped it hard.. But if you can run when u see epa they shafted you..

WOW25T... i feel for you... Were you also asked to do an emissions test... thats a btch to pass :)

the reason for pulling me over was a random breath test! It hardly seems fair that you can be defected for a car that was allowed to be complied and registered within aust! You should try and appeal the fines based on ignorance... thats if you have papers to show what was on the car when it was complied.... you could always claim you didn't know there were laws against no cat etc... if anything you can get out of paying the fines... from what i hear, the fine for no cat is 10k

I had pics taken of my car too.. though i wasn't asked to be in the pics... looks like they were on a money making mission on that night :

I played dumb with the no cat fine i knew it didnt have a cat when my machanic told me after doin the clutch but i just acted dumb and asked whats a cat  but if i admitted then i would have been fined the whole amount as it stood i recieve a $750 for first offence not know, if i was caught again they said i would recieve a $5000 fine. i mean it was my fault for not fitting one in the first place.. But for that .5 of a kw you receive with no cat, your better off fitting a high flow cat, even trust make them now with flow very high amounts for $450 which is cheaper then the fine add. yeh i had ot go to emmission, but i found once i removed BOV Air Pod and a cat plus removing the hot dog in the exhust and adding a muffler my car fell to a nice 83 Db max, and the emmission results pass first time if i can find my emission graph result i ll post.. When i went still with my hks rear canon they toldme i was dreaming if i thought i was gonna pass then they got the shock of there life..but Sure Flo in ingulburn did a good job on my ehuast as well as some guidence from my machanic on getting emmission levels down (i be happy to tell but in om dont want epa to find the secrets :P) Thou i was crying when my baby sky come out quieter then my old mans Vx clubbie :D lol but oh wellz...

    • Hi again all, I’ve tried doing some searching on the topic but couldn’t find the answer I’m looking for.   I deleted my clutch booster because it had an air leak and was squealing like a hog, and now my clutch has very poor pedal feel and the friction zone is way too small, so I believe I need a bigger diameter clutch master cylinder to compensate for not using the booster. I found a Wilwood option that’s 3/4” for a good price and will fit my 3AN clutch line, but all the firewall adapters I see online such as RB factory or Chase Bays are listed as RWD only (GTST/GTS). Link below. https://rbfactory.shop/products/nissan-to-wilwood-girling-clutch-master-cylinder-adapter My question is if these adapters will also fit a GTR, and if anyone has experience using a 3/4” CMC without the booster, my clutch is a Nismo coppermix twin plate.   Thanks, always appreciate the advice!
    • Catching up on a post, I've replaced the external shark fin with a small 4g antenna (no further drilling, just a 1mm embiggening of the existing hole, and run that to where the dual battery models have the battery in the left rear guard.  No idea what the factory antenna did, but removing it had no impact on anything I use, according to the US manual the GPS antenna is in the dash and it still works fine Also ended up stealing battery power from one of the amps and ACC power from a unit nearby to add an ACC relay to power it. The mounted the booster, wifi, power socket and antenna splitter in the rear left guard out of the way, all out of site with the boot trims in
    • What drama? The only drama you're going to have is the near constant work to maintain all those sphericals. I only have sphericals in my front caster rods and front upper CAs (because both of these are near compulsory in an R32). I have had the front arms out of my car 34 times already this month, and if the new replacements arrive today, I will have them out and apart again tomorrow. Chasing clicking and clunking that comes from sphericals being a.....poor choice for a road car. Moisture and dirt are not their friends. I have been contemplating a change to my rear subframe that would require me to use sphericals in my lower CAs. And.....I don't want to have them that close to the road.
    • Did you need anything else you've already done? If you had it before... and liked the changes after, then supposedly it'd be more of the same. The idea about most suspension arms is to tune geometry that the OEM arms max out at/can't handle because they weren't designed to have the car setup in such a way that 'looks good'.
    • I have replaced everything on my r34 including suspension to Miester R, all rear subframe bushes to poly, all arms to metal adjustable and same in front.   only thing I haven't touched is the front lower control arm. Should I? what improvement can i expect ? I mean the one on the link below?   Car drives perfectly, it is just me thinking everything is either puly bush or hard bearing type so should also do lower control arm front but do I really need it ? https://www.japspeed.co.uk/product/suspension/adjustable-arms/nissan-200sx-s13-s14-s15-skyline-r32-r33-r34-adjustable-suspension-front-lower-control-arms/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAo5u6BhDJARIsAAVoDWs5V_PauQPf0kx3zFCaA4tOC9Q7JSIsfJWma_jAPN2f1sJA686djOwaAidgEALw_wcB
