So to say i'm not the most car cluey person around would be an understatement.

Just trying to add a manual boost controller/tee (GFB atomic thingo)

I understand it has to go imbetween the actuator but every other setup i've seen in threads/guides is different so i'm not keen on cutting and putting stuff in until i know 100%.

From what i've read that's my understanding, do i block the 3rd output of the current T that is there that goes from the canister thing to the TB and the actuator, use the actuator part and find a hot side output that's not the throttle body?

Photos are not helping me. Is your RB20DET stock or has it had an electronic boost controller fitted? If its stock there should be a line going from a boost source to the actuator. Start at the actuator and work backwards to check. You will not be able to get less than 10psi in this case but you can get more. Cut that line and insert your manual boost T. The bleed or vent usually goes back into the intake via the bov return pipe but as you probably won't have any fittings you will have to improvise.

RB20s have a VERY short hose running from the fitting on the comp housing to the wastegate actuator. That hose is about 3" long.

That is the boost source at one end and the boost destination at the other. All boost controllers get fitted between those two points.

I reckon not being able to put on a boost controller is a waring sign that perhaps you shouldn't actually put one on.

Get someone who knows what they are doing (mate or workshop) to do it and set it up.

I appreciate your concern, but that is the exact reason i'm asking. It's not as clear cut as it was made out and from the ones i have looked at.

I understand i need a pressure hose from after the turbo to tell the boost tee how much pressure is going through and when to let the actuator open, the problem is none of the hoses i have found are of that nature, only ones i have go to the throttle body.

I'm asking this so I can potentially learn something and not have to pay for it.

The thing is, it is so easy that it isn't funny. There should never be any mention of "canister thing" and "TB" in discussion about where to connect to and from.

Apply brain, think about how it should work, then make it so.

Or, just google it. Been done 17 trillion times. And that's just this week.

Just thinking if it is a 25 turbo they don't have a port on the turbo for the actuator which i think removes the only port befor the throttle body and could be why the charcoal canister line has been tapped into, not the wright way to do it but could explain the trouble. Happy to be wrong though.

    • Just cut the bottom of the guard out. It's no longer got a big duct, to a sealed box, or a restriction. It has all the cold air from outside. Also, that cai you showed looks terrible. Bends are NOT good for go gos!

    • If the gases flowing in those two tracts had the same properties, you could maybe use such broscience. But the exhaust has a different composition, different normal density, different actual density (because of different normal density, and mostly because of the massively higher temperature), and different viscosity (again because of much higher temperature). Consequently, all of the fluid dynamics parameters that matter, that you calculate from these inputs, such as the Reynolds number, friction factors (for wall friction) and so on, are all incomparable.
    • And we shall have to presume that Canada is the same?
    • In the US almost everything is E10. It can't exceed 10% by much or fuel systems have trouble adapting. At the same time because MTBE, MMT, and TEL are all banned they need as much ethanol in it as possible to boost octane.
