Ok, I have been reading other threads about Microtech, Power FC and other ECU managements. To those that already have MoTeC installed, what are your pros and cons about it? Yes, I already know that the installation cost is high, and I am considering to have MoTeC - installation to be done by Tilbrook - into my:

R33 GTS25T 4door series 1 - JUN BL 3" turbo-back, TurboSmart hi/low, HKS FCD. No FMIC yet.

Silvia PS13 SR20DET - JASMA 3" turbo-back, Boost bleeder. No FMIC yet.

Do you getting better fuel consumptions and more power gains, and by how much kW?

Are there any problems?

Does the MoTeC do away with the AFM?

Are you using the MoTeC Pro or the MoTeC Clubman series?

Would I be better off to install only the cheaper MoTeC Clubman, it's about $400 cheaper and less featues than the Pro?

Any other feedback info would be appreciated?

Graham

Motec will do away with the air flow meter, although motec is a really good ecu with many fetures it will cost a heap to fit. Why not look at a cheaper ecu that will still do the job, Haltech is one of the best and has all the fetures you will need and would be alot cheaper than the motec.

Iam tossing up whether to get the stock ecu remapped of fit a haltech, this is the only aftermarket ecu i will consider because it is not overpriced and has alot more fetures than the cheaper ones eg closed loop for better fuel consumption.

How much cheaper is the Haltech, and who in Adelaide will install?

In the meantime I will look for the Haltech link.

Does Haltech have detonation detection, so if you had to use lower grade ULP petrol in some towns where PULP fuel is unavailable, MoTeC will adjust the timing to compensate for this?

Sorry to disappoint you, but motec doesnt use any detonation detection.

i have wired up and prgramed a m48, onto a 1.6L turbo capri engine i have on a engine dyno, lots of fun playiong with it.

As far as the AFM goes, it will. Go that is, you need a 3 bar map sensor for any forced induction engine.

The M800 gives you closed loop operation, set at any A/F ratio you desire, but evn that doesnt use a knock sensor.

Remember, you get what you pay for, if Motec wasnt the best, they wouldnt be in all the touring cars.

Hey kjb_r33,

I will have to check this out with Tilbrook, as he said to me two weeks ago that MoTeC will adjust the timing????? You would be right that "you get what you pay for"!

Hey RS500,

Will search for some links on the Autronic SMC! The name Autronic sounds fimilliar, do they make cruise controllers as well?

Hey Clint32,

Thanks for your info on AFM. I have looked at the Haltech link and will check out with some of the installers!

i went to a motec seminar about 8 months ago, and i asked why they dont use knocks sensors, they said because the knock sensors cant distinguise engine knock caused by detonation from any other shock wave going through the block. Even factory setups well retard timing for no real reason. Even shockwaves from Suspension are enough to cause timing alterations. The best way to set ignition timing is ona dyno to start with, then on the road, using the data loggin capabilites...

Hey kjb_r33,

The advise you have just given to me seems to make a lot of sense regarding the knock sensor, because my Silvia is having a problem with surge type problem for the last 18 months, and it is still not fixed even when the TPS and the Knock Sensor has been replaced. This is the reason I am upgrading to MoTeC in the Silvia, and will make sense to upgrade my R33 for better power gain and fuel economy.

Thanks for your good advise.:uh-huh:

there are heps of installers in SA for Haltech, yeah the Motec is probably a little better but is it worth it for the extra $$$, you wont get any more power or drivability, one of the main bonuses in the Motec is its data logging ability but it in not much help on the road.
