Also if you are building a new head and wanted to use big duration cams with big overlap you can sink the exhaust valves into the head a few millimetres to help stop intake flow passing straight out the exhaust valve during overlap. If you can achieve the ideal inlet to exhaust pressure ratio then you could make benefit out of the overlap without losing too much of the fresh intake charge blowing straight out the exhaust and being wasted. Should still get good blow down to clear out residual exhaust but keep as much of the fresh charge in the chamber for more bang!

Sounds like they are mismatching the intake lobe centres so they are phased differently to each other in each cylinder grouping. So they are basically opening one valve earlier or later then the other (depending on which way you look at it lol).

A quick and easy way to change the mixture motion going into the chamber. Trying to induce more swirl into the airflow pattern entering the chamber which will increase efficiency and torque through better air/fuel atomisation and more complete burning of the mixture.

Actually if you didn't want to use their cams you could achieve a similar effect by mismatching the valve lash on your intake valves. Set 1 valve at say 0.010" and then its mate at say 0.020". I have no idea what that difference might achieve in terms of valve opening degrees though. You would have to try it and dummy assemble and then use degree wheel & dial indicator to measure the difference in actual valve timing.

There was an outfit in the US (I think it was thought up by David Vizard) reworking heads somewhat radically - with quite different cam lobes and different porting in each pair to create a lot of swirl and apparently it worked really well. But it all went quiet over the last couple of years. Dunno why. I wouldn't think that Kelford's tech would be a massive difference. It's probably good, and measurably better, but not by big margins. I would like to see what it can offer though.

As to the idea of setting the valve clearances different to try to achieve the same goal......not gunna happen. Too little range of available clearances that will work (without breaking shit) and no real measurable change in valve timing.

Thanks guys, I will email the tech again to know what's their definition of this split technology. However, considering my budget is not unlimited, maybe that extra 500-600$ would be better spent on head porting or put toward a front lsd Vs. tomei 252 9.15mm. Just a thought :)

Front LSD should be a mod VERY high up on the modding tree. DO NOT put that engine back in the car without one. You're crazy if you do.

I wanted to go quaiffe ( i know you have high respect with the quaife), but I can have a brand new nismo for 400$ less than the quaife and i spotted a cusco MZ ( scared it might be too harsh for daily since its rated for track) for 600$ less..

I'M already sorted with the rear, i will be using a 1.5 ats ''regular''

Some people are hard lol!! This build wasn't expected ( engine was rebuilt 10k ago, timing belt skipped and im back to square one.. already put 6k toward the EFR combo, considering i gotta pay labour + all new valvetrain component), I'm getting close to my budget lol Sometimes I tell myself, better to have a nismo, than nothing ( in the case of the front lsd, for instance)

Big Mike. What cam would you suggest for the OP's engine?

But if I was doing a street engine 500hp I would keep the duration close to stock and make sure there was no overlap (as there would be high back pressure relative to boost), go higher on lift without going silly and make sure the profile opened the cam fairly aggressively.

I might just choose the top spec Mines cams to be honest...

If you could get the above with Kelfords little offset trick then sounds good.

PS: Quaife front and rear or go home! If you own a GTR, you can't be a tight a$$, lol.

a great all-around GTR focusing toward response OR, in other word, I want to be able to keep up with my friends 's R35 when we go for a little cruise :D ( I went from stock, to gt-ss, to -5s in the last 4 years). I'm not a dyno-queen. I'm sure the EFR 83/74 can get me to 600-650whp (dynapack 2wd) territories easily. which is enough for me, now I wish to make my setup as responsive as possible.

I think the 252, 9.15mm will be the choice. selling my type-B shouldn't be too hard.

Off topic : on my to-do list, I still wish to replace my ts3b for a Coppermix Comp, my sard 700cc for ID1000, spline gear for my oem n1 gear, front lsd, 3.5 inch catback for my 3 inch catback, mechman 170amp for the oem one. type R for my type-B. Surely, I'm forgetting stuff lol

They're an Alfa Romeo NA lobe which uses a 32 mm base circle (stock lifters). Camtech grind them up.

I'll get the specs one day and post them up. But what we wanted was short duration and biggish lift with an agro ramp rate. HKS step 2 springs wernt enough to keep the bucket on the lobe with anything more than 19 psi and 5700 rpm iirc.

After spinning up a JUN 264 at 10.5 and Tomei 270 at 10.25, Yavuz located this lobe and used it.

There is another set. 262 at 11.3 iirc, once again with an agro rate.

I'll get the finer details next time I'm out there (if he is ok with making the info public).

Very helpful.    it’s a 2022 400R so would most likely lose those features as you say.     I did a quick compare of a rv37 nav and heading for sale in Japan to q50 model. I’ll pop pics below. Seems  Japan spec head into top, nav unit second below it   below pic Q50 aud delivered     differences seem to be Aus delivered has a different plug top left hand side of head unit- not sure what and where it goes.   and nav unit Japanese tv37 had an extra plug put    Again I’m really not sure what each of these differences mean!       the actual plugs on a v37 and q50 screens look identical on both screens… pics below for comparing. (One screen was is a us delivered one) but should be same gps signals etc as Australia.    If it were as simple as swapping a nav unit from q50 aud delivered im interested -just want to figure out what the missing plug is for before spending big $ on a second hand part for it to not work, and I guess with the head unit, if the band expander does the job (I got a 20mHz so should get the range I’m after) so should narrow my issue down to nav unit only.  I’d love to know what the extra cable on rv37 does and if I elongate that part what it’ll do to the setup,    and also, if I can figure out what that head unit plug difference is, what does that cable do and where does it got can it be altered or re-plugged?! Excuse my ignorance what is ACP/AA, what does that stand for?   Thanks for the info re tyre sensors, helpful and great to know.  I was reading the online manual off Japan website and it seemed to make it sound more confusing than it is  I guess a rim replacement would require the sensors to be moved to a new rim to carry that option over?!     Thanks for the info regarding diagnostic mode. I appreciate your help mate. Trying to brainstorm here to find a solution to get as much gadgets as I can working! I plan to get my local Nissan tech to have a look too who used to be at an Infiniti dealer back in the day to see if any thing they have or idea can find a soliton. But hoping anyone here has gone down the same route to make life easier!!   i guess identifying the cable/plug differences and what they do would be a great way of finding out if the units are transferable    thanks again 
    • No idea about the remote start part. If the V37 nav is anything like other Nissan JDM vehicles, you can't get the factory Japanese nav working in australia, a card from a different car almost certainly won't work, those cards are usually matched to the serial number of the DCU.  You could be possibly swap out the components from a AuDM Q50 to get it working, but if this is a new model (2021+) 400R, then you will lose the newer features like ACP/AA.  That said, if you have ACP/AA, just use google maps.. I assume a band expander would be required to get the local radio stations, but don't forget the Japanese FM band is narrower than ours, so you still might not be able to receive all Australian stations. I can't see any reason the tyre pressure sensors won't work here, there is the sensor unit inside the rim and the receiver nearby in the wheel well.  I have never had to change the batteries on my 2015 Q50, so I assume they last quite a while.  A straight battery change shouldn't need them to be re-registered as they are the same unit, that should only be required if you replace a sensor with a new one.   Word of warning, if you ever go into the 'secret' diagnostics mode on the main screen, DO NOT EVER do a 'reset' in this menu, it will erase all of your model specific data in the DCU and you will need a trip to a dealer to re-program it all, which would be particularly painful being an import.  This applies to the AuDM Q50 too.
    • There is a known issue with the mix door motor on the Q50 which causes these symptoms, not sure if it is common on the Y51 though.

I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.   Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?     also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here.      also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system?    any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance
