So I love working on cars and I have a fair knowledge of how they work. But whenever it comes to wiring I get lost. How can I learn more about auto electrics. I just bought a Cressida for 300 bucks . ( bargain ) and would love to do I 1jz swap one day. But I know how expensive auto sparky's are. So how can I gain some knowledge.

Online tutorials is the easiest way to get the basics.

Or as silly as this may sound. Go and ask to do work experiance at an electrical workshop for a week. They may give you shit jobs but they will explain what you want to know during your time there.

We would have 6-12 work experiance people a year through our workshop and they quite often come in after wards and get supplies and information/ help with there projects.

Auto electricians are expensive as they would have firstly done a trade course and then studied the basics used in modern cars trucks, campers you name it.

They'll have a working knowledge of engine management, charging systems, aircon and so on.

You can't expect to understand all this without proper training and Youtube, Google etc will only bury you with useless info.

For your situation, (a re-power) I suggest you study the wiring diagrams of both vehicles so there's no surprises when you tackle the job.

Ask questions on their forums and soon you'll have that required knowledge.

I will defiantly try and watch some youtube tutorials, but I don't really want to spent the money for tafe as I just want to learn the basics so I know what I'm looking at. Where can I find a workshop manual for a r32 gtst? My car doesn't have one. And a 89 Cressida.

Learn the fundamentals of electronics. Once you can get your head around that you will be able to figure most auto electronics out.
