Hi there

New to forum, looking to buy a 350gt premium, i have found 2 and i am trying to decide between both and would appreciate some thoughts

- first one is has apparently 65,000k's 2003 $13,000 the guy is the first owner is Australia, purchased from all imports, completely stock, my concern is he has a deposit invoice that he has shown me which include the VIN, and a finial purchase invoice, with a different VIN... i have brought this up with him and he apparently did not even realize, has anyone experienced similar situation where they were given two different VINS from all imports?

- Second one has 112,000k's 2006 for $12,700, is this too cheap? seats do look fairly worn, the guy has told me he is first owner in Australia :action-smiley-069::yes::cheers: aswell, but is unable to provide me with any such documents about the importation or invoices from all imports..

Advice on my conundrum would be great!!!

thanks for your reply's, either of them have de-reg papers, is it common for people not to have them? the 2003 one has
"warranty" papers with details of the k's, but i am aware it has most likely be wound back but i have had a close look at the interior and does seem in quite good condition compared to the 2006 one with 112k's

Fair enough, then you really need to look for dereg papers and compare the kms travelled. Auction papers would also reveal any issues the car has when it was bought in Japan. More than that it's really a gamble.

Maybe buying from a personal owner might be another way out...?

yeh i want to avoid buying from dealerships altogether, here is a link to both the vehicles im looking at, both private sales, no one seems to have those documents for anything on sale atm. not sure why..

If they don't have the de-reg papers, steer clear.

When a car leaves japan, this document is given to the importer. It's not something you would throw away.

The auction papers are pretty hard to read as everything is in Japanese.

I purchased mine directly from an importer, he was happy to offer me the papers when I asked. I have these on file and will pass them on with the car if I ever sell it.

I asked another dealer for the papers on a V36 I was looking to buy, and he became very shifty and said they had probably been thrown away. I don't think he was expecting me to ask...

The blue one above is NOT private - it is All Imports or one of their MANY sister dealerships or subsidiaries - you can spot it in the photo style and car positions a mile away. They often put bait cars that are either long sold or were never actually for sale, then when you ring to enquire offer you a different or comparable one.

The white one seems like it is legit, and is cheap.

If you are serious about a car, use a jap odo checking service to dig up the de reg certs. A tank of fuels worth of money to avoid a potential horror is well worth it. Even if you have to do a few of them before finding a good car.

Look in the Engine bay, and under the car for signs of more than normal surface rust and corrosion, indications of a cold /snow climate car.

If anything slightly smells fishy, RUN away. It more than likely is. People with genuine cars will go out of their way to show you they are genuine.

The white one i am very interested in but like i said does not have the de-reg papers... so would be good to check up on that.

@camr33, is there anyone you would recommenced in sydney region ? without needing to import myself so i can actually see it before i buy

Because I was a noob and didn't get any dereg papers when I bought mine privately here in Australia.

The documents supplied had all the vehicle details, but did not have any odometer figures of the car when it was exported when it was 3 years old. They still supplied me the documents, but also gave a full refund!

Hey Andrew, it's true I do absolutely love my V35!

Whether I sell my V35 this year, or in a few years... I honestly don't mind - because it's the best car I've ever had, and I really enjoying owning / driving her.

...and when my V35 does sell, I'll upgrade to a low mileage fully optioned V36 350GT Type SP... aka the equivalent of what my V35 Skyline is now.

So either way, Happy Days for me :woot:

...and maybe, just maybe down the track a Mark X after the V36...

    • Sorry no - The sandtrap adventure ended the day, happened at the end of the last session. At that time I wasn't hearing any weird noises nor were the brakes shuddering anymore. It was only when watching the videos that I remembered I had these sounds early on!
    • Did the noise appear after your sand trap adventure? Could be something got dislodged and is playing rub rub. Even a rock wedged somewhere.
    • Is there a shroud around the tailshaft spline into the back of the box? They can rub and make a horrible noise if they are not on straight/damaged. The heat might have caused it to grow too much in one direction and rub.
    • Strangely I noticed it either disappear later in the day, or not be present. I definitely noticed when I was crawling around that open wheel thingy entering the pits (that part was audible in car). Driving home and commuting around town for example, I didn't hear it. It's plausible that it was a brake disc or something still slightly in contact. The brakes absolutely felt BAD for the first couple of sessions, huge amounts of shudder and grinding as they got up to temp - And then I actually just forgot about it as the day went on/didn't notice it. The videos were from the morning when this was more present than the afternoon/drive home when it wasn't. I've asked around and got a variety of responses including handbrake shoe contacting hub, CV joints, CB tailshaft bearing as above, and clutch input bearing. I didn't test if it disappeared when clutch was in. I haven't noticed it in any of the other videos nor did I notice it when driving to that extent. More or less hoping the microphone at the rear license plate giving some kind of clue of 'something' but it looks like "spin stuff and see if you can notice it" is the way forward here. I could be smart and use the gopro mic and re-mount it to that location to see if the sound is still present at low speed actually. Sounds like a decent test whenver I have the CBF'ness to drive the car again. Given it's almost 40C for the day of the track day and the next 3 days after, the CBF is high. All I've done since getting home is unpack the car, remove the remnants of the lip and undertray and left it there. I was surprised how well the PMU Club Racers actually worked. The brake performance on the track was absolutely fantastic, best I've ever personally used, no fade whatsoever and the bitiness was almost too good, I was scrubbing more speed off than I needed to, but I also ended up infield when I started trying to scrape off ... less speed.... so...
    • Not really, no. Anything you would do is easily reversible.
