M35 Internal Rear View Mirror - Plug In The Back Of ?

I have a 2005 Stagea M35 and I'm trying to find out what the plug and cable going into the back of the cars internal rear view mirror is for?

I can see no sensors on the front of the mirror. The mirror has standard manual control for dipping from lights reflecting in the mirror.

Could this be anything to do with wiring for a camera or something. The wiring into the back of the mirror is factory.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

I think it's an antenna for something. Remote start, or something or other.

It's for the smart keys. If you unplug it the car will not start, until you put the key in the ignition.

Ok, I unpluged the plug from the back of the mirror and the car would not let me unlock the key barrel, and when I plugged it back in, it was back to normal.

But when I turned the key barrel to Acc and then pulled the plug out of the mirror I could still start the car. So this must be just to do with the barrel locking system.

So you are right in saying it is to do with the smart key system.
